1964 cutlass trim

I am working on buffing the trim on my 64 cutlass. Is the side trim stainless steel or aluminum?
Thanks in advance for the help

Its aluminum and I'm not positive but believe its anodized. If you buff off that coating it will corrode much more easily.

1964 cutlass side trim

I tried straightening, sanding and buffing mine. It was badly scratched and dented. It did not work. It was stored inside over the winter and it still turned black. I found a place to anodize it but was about the same cost as chroming it. I had it chromed. It looks fantastic, even if not really correct. It was expensive, about $35 per foot.
