1981 cutlass supreme

looking for some info on a 1981 cutlass supreme i looked at today not really up on the g-bodies . it appears to have an aluminum hood most of the paint is missing from it but has no suface rust . the body and frame is real solid for a northeast car.there is an oil/choke light on not sure what that means it was down a quart of oil but that usually doesnt kick on an oil light .it has the optional olds 307 v8 . any help would be great, thanks

Did you inspect the rear frame rails? That is where these cars rot out the worst.

This is the first full year with a computer (started mid 1980) so it's about a dinosaur.

Not sure what to tell you about the light. It could be anything fro telling you there is an actual fault somewhere to the computer having an internal issue. You just won't know until you track down the problem.

yes the frame rails look real good as well as inside the trunk .it could be a good canidate for a nice street rod but its very original so not sure which route to take. these cars dont seem to bring a whole lot of money even fixed up nice .

The Choke and oil light are wired together If the choke wire is unplugged that will turn the light on, the choke is heated from the oil sender, not a good idea but you can rewire it to correct the problem. Good luck, the alum hood is sought after for racing (weighs less).

Give it time..... I've been dealing with Olds G-Bodies since the Mid 80's and have done quite well in the selling market, that is when I can convince myself to part with any.... I've stocked up quite well on NOS parts for these vehicles when Oldsmobile decided to shut down the lines.... I presently still have four of these.... 2 85's, an 87 & an 88..... If you think you may need any parts just PM me.... You are probably located about 35/40 miles from my location near Albany....

Put a magnet to the hood and you'll know right away if it is alum or steel.

That is only true on the V6 cars. Factory V8 cars did not use an electric choke and did not have the choke and oil wired together. If that is the case on this car, it was not originally a V8. Check the eight character of the VIN. If it is an "A", this car was built with a V6. If it is a "Y", it was originally a 307 and there is something wrong with the oil pressure or the sender or the circuit.

Yes, aluminum hoods were installed from the factory.
