So what? The shutdown area is miles long. The drum brakes can be backed off for less drag.

my first thought was the drum brakes would be less likely to grab at high speed if you stabbed em, maybe locking up a wheel. as well as the slight drag issue with a disc brake

One would be crazy to stand on the brakes at 200 MPH anyway, for exactly this reason. This is where driving skill and expertise becomes important. Besides, what are you going to hit that you need to stand on the brakes? There are miles and miles of open lakebed. If the car starts to get loose, you typically want to get off the throttle and lightly apply the REAR brakes only (using the ebrake) to straighten it out.

Again, so what? This isn't a street-driven car. It's a dedicated race car that doesn't need big brakes. In fact, bigger brakes would reduce the performance due to weight and drag. A successful race car is built to take the requirements into account. You never need to stop quickly on a salt flats car.

Yes he been collecting parts for years 80's up

He bought this car in 66 he couldn't remember if it was new or a demo
He bought his 442 in the 70's

The cutlass he drove for years then turned it into a parts runner for his shop in early 90's the 330 gave out and he turned it into his race car

Great guy this is who I got my 69 engine from gave me a fair price and talked olds the whole time loading it
