Hello all
I came across this car on ebay
http://tinyurl.co.uk/0e4i
some time ago, and I'm wondering what these pace cars were used for.
Thanks

They were used as daily drivers.

Interesting. I was under the impression that 1972 was the first year that Olds had an Indy 500 pace car, not the first year of Hurst Olds though. From all I've read it was due to a sponsor withdrawal of Chysler (mopar) in 1971. 1972 was to my knowledge the first year that there was a Hurst Olds Indy Pace car.

I know that Hurst put together a number of Hurst Olds cars all the way back to 1968?? with a special white/gold/black color scheme and authentic HO badging.

Does anyone out there know for sure whether the HO 442 was an Indy track pacecar before 1972?

http://www.indymotorspeedway.com/500pace.htm

The first Indy pace car for Olds was an 88 convertible in 1949. This was followed by a 98 convertible in 1960, the 1970 442, the 1972 H/O, the 1974 H/O, the 1977 Delta 88, the 1985 Calais, the 1988 FWD Cutlass Supreme, the 1997 Aurora, the 2000 Aurora, and the 2001 Bravada.

1] What's this "all the way back in 1968" stuff?
[I'm seeing Moses driving a 68 H/O]

2] 1968 was the first year of the H/O with black and silver or [silver and black if you prefer]

3] 1969 H/O were Cameo White with Firefrost gold stripes accented with black.

Here's a good reference site http://www.hurstolds.com/

You young guys today....

From my age bracket ...all the way back to 1968 is a CONTEMPORARY statement that's supposed to make me feel good about how old I am....'cause I can remember when those cars were new and I was just old enough to get my learners license and pound on the gas pedal

'scuse me, gotta change lanes, here comes Moses in his 68 HO "youngmobile" being chased by a chebby SS!!
