68 442 : Condition?
68 442 : Condition?
Hello
Looking at a 68 with 69 455 engine, C Heads. Includes the OAI setup as well, red-fenders, etc.
I'm not sure it's truly a W-30 (no build sheet or other info), but that's not my concerns.
It's the engine itself (Color and all which I know is incorrect, but Why green?), and body. Both look good from a distance, some wear, surface rust and bad paint.
Also seems to be a lot of black cover-up under the doors, and front fenders. Not sure what that's about.
The guys been good, and up front about what he knows and doesn't know.
I'd appreciate any and all opinions you guys have.
Thanks

Here's what I see.
The car has obviously been apart and put back together. I can't tell from the photos if those are factory red inners or repros.
The windshield washer tank should be bolted to the holes in the passenger side inner fender. Is there any evidence that one was there previously?
The overflow tank adapted from a Chevy truck is obviously not original.
I also can't tell if the scoops are originals or repros.
Good news: manual drum brakes. Bad news: the M/C is brand new. The black paint could be covering up the fact that there was a brake booster bolted to the firewall previously. On the other hand, the brake lines are bent for a manual drum M/C.
No posi tag on the axle. What's the axle code?
Good news: W36 stripes are in the right place. Bad news: it's a repaint - also, there are rust bubbles coming through the 'glass and bondo under that new paint.
I assume you've already checked for a Lansing assembly plant.

Yeah, Vin, cowl seemed fine, but it was all of these other questions.
Glass and Bondo...thought something was up. I hadn't looked at the car in person, but that looked like issues
Thanks again!!!
The holes look like they are there for the washer bottle. With the steel bell housing and driveshaft loop I'd say it was raced. I'd definitely say they were trying to match the car color with the motor. It just looks like an older restoration that's going to have to be completely redone. How bad is the base of the windshield?

I'm actually not sure about the windshield base. Wasn't even sure if it was worth looking at in person. He provided all these shots
Thanks Mike!
