Just sealed a deal on a pair of Rallye 350's

Looks like I am finally in the game scoring a deal on one of my A list dream cars. I ran into a 2 day old Craigslist add within a 2 hour drive away for a pair of real deal 70 Olds Rallye 350 F85 bench seat Club Coupes (post) m one is a very junk parts car but legit car with good TX title 350 automatic column, AC, PS, PDB, Rally gauges w tach , 3.23 posi, 3 yellow SSII wheels in trunk, missing spoiler, OAI hood and air cleaner there but damaged original engine and trans intact in car but probably rusted/locked up from sitting for decades. It will be parted its real bad trust me and I don't want to contribute to an unethical title and tag swap if you know what I mean. The good car also original TX car with TX title is a M21 four speed, bench ,3.91 Posi , stripper car. NO power options. manual steering manual drums, heater only no gauges . its missing original engine and tranny but does have flywheel, bell housing, pedals , z bar and bench seat "H" stamped Hurst shifter. Pictures to follow. 4 speed car has 68-69 350 4 barrel and th350 laying in it that will get pulled. all5 original yellow SSII wheels loose with 4 speed car, new OAI air cleaner stuff, some 70 engine parts, Think I got a decent deal but wont get into that. Both cars have the - - special PNT code, TRM 900 , built in LAN MI , 4 speed in date 01C , auto is 01A both have B90 SS door trim code,

The no power accessories stripper 4 speed , 3.91 Anti-Spin , bench seat car. It had one repaint with make shift stripes instead of correct decals. The original engine and trans that was lost may have been in the 80's when a shop was to rebuild and hop it up and didn't complete the work but took the money. The shop lost the court case to the original owner family and a wrecker came and grabbed the car but motor stuff was separated and lost at that time sadly. The automatic motor out of the other one is what I plan to build and find another Muncie. Also have the 68-69 350 for 350 parts I can use. It will run but knocks supposedly.

Shame the one in the worst shape was used for target practice. Hope you can save that DS mirror. Nice score. The #6 head came from a W-31.

After seeing a shifter like the one that comes with this car on Ebay listed as a rare 70 Olds 3 speed shifter makes me wonder if I am getting a 3speed car. They claim car has G88 3.91 rear and assume 4 speed but HD 3 speed was still available

Sick to think how that one was treated by one of the original owners after a divorce..

I asked about the shifter and Ok sorta scratch the 3 speed idea, I called them back and they bought the shifter, flywheel, bellhousing and OAI air cleaner after they got the car becasue that stuff was missing along with the missing original engine and trans. They were told it was a 4 speed car plus the code of the rearend being a 3.91 likely matched to the M21 muncie 4 speed

Right! The hood has some cracks from getting tugged on too hard with the hinges rusted but it might be salvageable. I see it going to a big swap meet along with some other stuff.

That is the 3rd or 4th post coupe Rallye I have seen that is in very bad shape or has to be parted out in the last 6 months. I wonder how many post coupes are out there and in running shape?

Good question but on a different note, I have done a lot searches on Rallye 350's this past week and have seen more than I thought possible of bench seat post 4 speed Rallye cars oh wait you got one too ... generally a large amount of post cars period. Those 1020 F85's must have had a decent amount survive. Sad though on scrapping but I can't let this one turn into a re tag elsewhere...

Brought home parts car POS Rallye today

Here is the parts car beauty, truly a contender for most abused collectible car shot by drunk rednecks.

A little progress today after work. I mixed some ATF and Acetone concoction and poured over the weather exposed froze up correct 7040250 Quadrajet I need. I waited a few minutes and at least the uncut fuel line unscrewed as did the 4 bolts and the choke heat tube nut. The carb will then go in a bucket of same mixture and sit for a good while. Maybe at least the center section will be salvageable. I also poured a few quarts of oil/gas mixture down the intake to help soften up everything below for later. The front license plate was issued in 1975 so car may have been sitting outside not running for upwards of 35 years.

The 7040250 carb did loosen up some with the ATF/Acetone. I was able to get the top off and the inside removed. The base plate is a lost cause and I will have to grind off the heads off the Phillips head screws but that's ok. I just wanted the center section mainly and it seems pretty buildable. I got the good car home yesterday finally and verified the SJ code 3.91 Anti Spin. The 69 ish 350/TH350 laying in it has a pretty good 7029253 carb (400 442 4 speed) on it I will use it too or at least the base plate.

A few of the more important parts that came with it. I have a lot of A/C , power steering and alternator stuff extra plus will have some #5 and #8 heads available. Car was from the Hallsville Longview TX area since new and was likely raced at the local but now defunct 1/4 mile track in Hallsville. Car had headers previously and found old stuff like Accel dual point distributer , No - Hop bars , under dash gauges.. Found it cool the parts car was visible on Google maps, this 4 speed one was in shop storage last 14 years since they got it but apparently spent a good deal of time in the weather before that and it has some rust I will have to deal with. I suppose I am third family to own it. Prior to 2000 it had stayed in the same family since new from Uncle to Nephews and or Brothers or some such.

Figure it was time for an update. Sill whittling away on the parts car but most items are sold and gone that I didn't need. I did finally measure valves on the single big valve mystery #6 that came with 4 speed car that was raced and it had 2.07 / 1.625 valves ! I find it cool that it was drag raced before and will be again and I plan on the 2.07's in my other #6 heads as well but with 1.71 and or 1.68 exhaust. The TH350 out of the parts car is not the original like the engine was as well. The engine and trans that was layed in the 4 speed car turns out to be a 68 350 4 barrel high compression engine with a ST300 2 speed (yuck) but still find it nice it had the 69 442 400 4 speed coded carb on it though and its in good shape. I hope to get a hold of some of the previous family and maybe learn more details of its race history or even a vintage picture would be great. Here was vid I found of the old Hallsville drag strip where I am fairly confident it was raced at (same town I picked it up from and they said it was a local car since new)
