I hadn't heard that he had died until now. Happened a few days ago. He was 90. That's a nice long life.

Something else interesting...the article says what "STP" stands for: Scientifically Treated Petroleum.

STP to me was always Standard Temp and Pressure, which I seem to recall being 25 C and 1 atm, but that's chemistry, not automotive.

did that myself, covered a friends moms VW bug till it looked like race car, even did the headlights, peeled the paint off most areas of the car too

 

STP sure kept a lot of babbit rod dipper chevy 216's on the road back in the day.

My chemistry stopped after Chem 101 in school, then I went Materials Science and other things more towards engineering. From what I saw of P Chem and Organic, that's some rough stuff.

This is one article on the Turbine Powered Corvette. I recall another that said it spun the tires all the way through the quarter mile and that the rubber tracks just got darker in places where it had shifted.

 

As kids we also pasted those stickers everywhere, it was a great marketing idea along with the letters-what did they stand for......?? stop teenage pregnancies.....? ahh the 60's.....
