factory dual quad W motor

well I was lucky enough to come across a original dual quad w- motor that was pulled from car after 1 year and put in the corner of the garage. original owner told me less than 5000 miles on engine and ran perfect when he pulled it. still had original dated Packard sparkplug wires on it!! really amped up about it. now I have to find a car to put in. I think wife might throw me out if I drag another car home.

Are you talking about a Chevy 409 or the ultra rare 427 based on the 348/409 architecture? It is the only motor I have heard referred to as a W motor and they were one of the GM motors I know of that could be had with dual quads. If so, helluva find! There are guys out there that would pay big $$$$$ to get a complete original motor!

That was my initial thought, but he didn't mention Chevy, and this is an Olds site (not that it matters in his find, or posting it here).

jeez, that did not last long. yep a 409. the 427 w motor was the z-11 package longer stroke raised port heads, 2 piece dual quad intake + the ultra cool aluminum front clip and bumpers and some other aluminum do dads. you could get the 348 motor with tri power and the 425 hp 409 came with dual quads. anyway was talking cars with a older customer of mine last week and he told me about a 63 409 impala he bought new as a leftover in 64. fast forward to mid 65 his friend wrecked his new vette 396 425hp corvette. they yanked the 409 put it in the corner and installed the 396 in the impala. seeing how its a W motor it should be ok to stick it in a 442 or maybe I will start looking for a 61-62 bubble top.

It would be cool in a bubble top, and of course a 4spd.

Wives will do that from time to time, if you stay in the garage long enough they come out looking for you...lol...dual carbs are great.

Well, I'll be...

It seems, your spaceship just landed in the wrong forum. Interesting stuff, though. I never heard of Chebbie punching out their blocks beyond 409 cubes:

...as for the Z-11, yes they had 427 ci big blocks but they were not rat motors or MARK IV's, they were 427 ci W-motors based off the famed 348-409ci motors found in 58-65 chevy cars and trucks. like this:
