At least SOMEBODY'S paying attention...

There's a very nice 1968 442 on ebay currently. The seller is apparently paying attention, because among the many photos included with the ad is this one:

Of course, then there are these two... but at least this is easily fixable.

All in all, a very nice car.

Paying attention to what????? There aren't even any windshield washer hoses, let alone them being in the right place. They probably exhausted themselves getting the stripe right..........

While we talking '68 442 - why so many currently on eBay?

& two appear to be "Turnpike Cruisers"

The seller didn't advertise it as a 100 point resto. You know my hot button...

Yeah, there are a lot of little detail items - valve covers, washer hoses, TVS not hooked up, aftermarket ballast resistor, but those can all be rectified in a Saturday.

I'd say close but not quite on the placement of the stripes/emblems, but a good guess = nothing original to go by.

Bronze is correct for a 1968 400. The metallic engine paint is very sensitive to application technique. Depending on how thick you spray it, the same can of paint may show more or less metallic.

Did the 1968 442 have an external voltage regulator? The 442s in 1969 had an internal voltage regulator. All other A bodies in 1969 had an external voltage regulator.

Cheers, Mike

'68 Cutlass had external voltage regulator. I don't see any reason the 442 wouldn't have.

Probably no WW hoses because the WW probably haven't worked for years!

They must have started that in 1969 in the 442.

Correct. The internal regulator alternators were first used on the 1969 442s.

Wouldn't the Fisher body manual carry the stripe dimensions?

Well, I don't know for sure, but so many shops/people get this wrong. Which is my take on this thread..its all about the stripe. They got it mostly right on this one...just a little too close to the emblem though.

If the white car has original stripes they are not the same side to side.

The way the cars are shaped I still think those stripes make the cars look like a knocked over bowling pin.

The reason most people get the stripe wrong is because they're not aware that on the non-stripe cars the '442' emblem is in a slightly different location on the fender and when they line up the stripe with that it throws the whole thing off.

I saw the red one on ebay, not a bad car if it goes for a good price, I like the color combo...too bad it's not a 4speed 4 bbl.
