'67 Olds Cutlass Town Car
'67 Olds Cutlass Town Car
Good Morning. I am looking at a '67 Olds Cutlass Town Car, one owner, garage kept with 147,000 mi. If I purchase it, I intend to enjoy it for a bit and then sell it. It is in fine condition inside and out. Mechanically, I am not sure yet until I get it started as it has not been run in 3 years. The seller is asking $1500 for it which is about $1000 below low retail. Once detailed and assuming it checks out mechanically it's high retail is about $5000-$8000. So I am asking for advice. Is it worth taking a chance with such high mileage?
In this economy things really dont go for high retail. If it hasnt run in 3 years their could be a couple grand of things to do. If your trying to turn a profit then I cant really recommend it.
Also doesnt the "town" olds have 4 doors? Rule of thumb for collectible cars the majority of the time is to go for things with 2 doors. 4 door cars are hard to sell and not as desireable.

Unfortunately I do agree with the ^^ statements about 4 door cars IN GENERAL. However, having said that; if this car had been the Cutlass Supreme Holiday Sedan instead of the Town Sedan I think it would be much easier to unload. The styling for Holiday sedans - although subtle - is very striking in terms of presentation and elegance.
Town Sedans came in various trim lines, as evidenced by the following images. I think the 4 doors are more rare (just out of attrition), but they are also less desirable or sought after too. I think that's in part due the the image of a 4 door car being the family mover or grocery getter as opposed to the sportiness of the 2 door models. Go check it out before you plunk down the cash. Take it for a test drive to your local mechanic and get an opinion. Who knows what the economy or enthusiast market will be in a year or 2?

If you could post some pics, that would help. At $1500, doesn't sound too bad! Now if you are looking to flip it at a big profit, then probably not a good candidate. If you drive it for 2 years, then sell it for what you have in it, to me, that's not a bad deal! But from a business standpoint, not a great idea!
I remember the 67 Town Sedan and Holiday Sedan really well. We had the plain Cutlass Town sedan (which I learned to drive in) and down the street a neighbor had the CS Holiday Sedan. I would have preferred the HS any day, but when you're only 14 and aren't paying for gas/ins etc you pretty much take what you can get!
I also would love to see pics of that ride.
