Identifying 1967 Engine
Newbie trying to figure out what i bought : )
I have a plain jane 1967 Cutlass with a 330 engine but do not know if it is a 320, 310 or 260 HP model. It is a 4 barrel and I know it has something to do with the letters (if any?) stamped somewhere near the cylinder head. I found the following numbers ...some were hard to read. I was working in the dark with a flashlight and a pencil with a dull pencil and don't recall where thes numbers were exactly on the block. Make any sense to anyone?? Thanks

This will help. Stamp on the right cylinder head. Should start with a "W" and end with either a "L", no letter or a "G". "L"-260hp, 310hp, 320hp for "G". Export engines have different code.

If you've got a non-AC setup the alternator may be hiding this location. Here's a couple pictures of a 1966 330.

Thanks a lot...That explains why I could not find it...the alternator is hiding it. I guess it doesn't matter, I love the car regardless. I will post pics when I get some. It's Black on black and looks looks cool...does not feel cool though...hotter than hell without AC .

Don't know if you have the stock air cleaner or not but the high compression engine had a red one while the low was black. It also says so on the label.
The more I look into it, C/S came standard with the high compression and cutlass with low compression with an option for high. My C/S has low compression which I guess is an odd ball maybe an export? I have the protecto-plate which verifies everything. A late entry into the assembly manual has the 4v low compression.
