My great grandfather ordered this car new. He drove it like it was meant to be driven & put about 19,000 miles on it in about 6 months & then was hospitalized & died shortly after. My grand mother Sadie, got the car as her part of the estate & I have known the car my whole life as my grand parents raised me from about age 5 on.
It is a '69 GTO, numbers matching, except for a couple small items, Ram Air III 366 hp.(standard engine in the Judge), TH400 with factory shift kit(still works), 3:55 posi, front discs, tilt, no AC, bench seat, tach & gauges, power flow ventilation(2 small fans in upper vent area), & a couple other small options. All original body panels, very little rust ever. Been repainted a time or two, the last time about '88?, has some cracks in the clear in a couple small areas, original top, interior & driveline.
I grew up driving this car & maintaining it. Had it way too fast a few times & apparently God didn't want me yet as I'm still here. Ran it at IRP a couple times & it ran right what the magazine articles said it should, 14.38 at +/- 99mph. My grandparents drove it down to florida in late '69 or '70 & my grand father Spencer had to put down a '66 or '67 442. The guy kept messing with him on the highway & Spencer didn't want to take a chance with a brand new to his wife's car, but he finally had enough & floored it & he said he left the 442 pretty hard & had the speedo buried & I've no reason to doubt him. I've had it buried a couple times & it's just a matter of how big a pair do you have after 120mph.
I recently had to replace one of the original T3 headlights. Of course with all the headlight stuff out, I "might as well" clean up that whole area right?
My name is on the title now & I'm just keeping it for my daughter.

We've done some light restoration under the hood & it still is basically a nice driver. I try not to thrash on it like I used to. In the '80's & '90's it had some old azz radials from '75 on it. They were rock hard & would spin all through first & into second & you had to be really careful. From a 2nd to 1st gear kick down, it would break them loose pretty easily. That never gets old right?

That is one sweet ride no matter what anyone might say. Passing a car like that down through the family is an outstanding thing to do.

GTO means Gas, Tires and Oil. It will need plenty of all three!

 

I know of a certain shade-under-two-ton "all green" Olds that'll beat it .

What does your daughter think of the color? It seems like every time i come across a youngin', i get "man that car would be perfect if it was another color"

I believe strongly in keeping cars in the family. When i was 10 my grandfather gave me his 94' Nissan Sentra, it's a stupid car, but i plan on restoring and keeping it forever. I drive it everyday, it's kind of like a time capsule when you've known a car it's whole life.
