I've been violated!

Last weekend the machine shop that ordered in my stroker rotating assembly for my +.060 455 was broken into. They made off with approximately $10,000 worth of high performance parts including mine. If you see any of my stuff out there for sale please let me know.
I had: Mahle forged pistons and rings, 7.1" Eagle rods, Clevitte rod and main bearings, and ARP studs. They didn't take the crank; go figure.

Thanks, Wilson

Is the shop taking responsibility for it?
That sucks.

Hm. Two things- either they thought it was all Chebby stuff, or they were looking for scrap metal. They have nothing in it except time, so whatever the scrap dealer gives them is pure profit.

Crank was prolly heavier than they wanted to fool with.

Shop should have insurance, if not, you may have to get a lawyer to recover anything. You have receipts, right? Based on experience I can about promise you cops won't do anything.

Sorry to hear - where was the shop located? Keep an eye out on the local CL an fleabay.
Does not seem like enough weight for wanting it for scrap.
That crook needs a shot o' lead!!

Sorry to hear that. Nothing pisses me off like a thief. They think they need/deserve your stuff more than you do...

Sorry if this comes across wrong, but chances are no one will ever see it again. That's also another reason shops carry insurance. You should not be out of pocket for anything that was in their care. Even if you pre-paid, the parts hadn't been delivered to you, so you should still get them. I sincerely hope the crooks are caught, because this is the type of stuff that costs everyone money in the long run.

Make sure the shop re-imburses you for the value of everything of yours that was in their possession. If they refuse, tell them you want to know the name of their insurance company. Then contact their insurance company and tell them you want to make a claim against the shop for their "negligence" in failing to take adequate measures to protect your stuff. If they refuse to give the name of their insurance company, you may need to send them a formal "demand letter" demanding reimbursment and requesting they forward the letter to their iinsurance company and their attorney. If they still refuse, you may have to sue them in small claims court depending on the value of your stuff. Make sure you have receipts to prove the value.

If the insurance company refuses to pay, or won't give you the fair value of the stuff, you can sue the shop in small claims court. Your argument will be that the shop did not adequately protect your property. In most states the maximum you can recover in small claims court is either $5,000 or $7,500. You can do this without a lawyer.

If the value of your stuff is more than what you can sue for in your local small claims court, thats a problem. Its very difficult to represent yourself outside of the small claims setting.

Sorry for your loss.

If you have hagarty insurance, or some of the other classic policies as well, you may be abe to file a claim through them against the shop for the loss of your parts. They do cover some parts not installed on the vehicle.

Were the aforementioned pieces just "inventory" or did they have some machining work as well? If they were there to be used as-is (or just given to you if you just ordered them THROUGH the shop) it should be as simple as them turning over receipts to their insurer and getting a check for the overall total.

If they had "work in it" things can be more complicated, as they'll have to submit--and justify--their labor/materials as well. If everything is above-board the same thing happens, it just takes longer.

Either way, I recommend being the "calm and understanding" customer and not the irate every-other-customer. It's strange, but I've always found that unlike the actual parts, the squeaky HUMAN wheels tend to go "greaseless" the longest....

A friend of mine lost 3 aluminium 410 blocks and a bunch of sprint car rims and other parts and tools. They opened the garage door backed in closed the door and loaded up.Made two trips.Thats right 2 truck loads. There was a complete 410 engine on the cherry picker worth $50,000 to $60,000 didn't take it,talk about more ***** than brains. They finely got caught but everything was gone. They knew the people at the recycle yard and everything went straight into the furnace no evidence.Whats an aluminium block worth verses the price aluminium per pound.
