Its been awhile since I bought spark plugs. Went looking for splitfire and found nothing. Are they no longer made?

Any input on irridium plugs for older GM cars?

NGK's work good in our engines.

 

There's nothing wrong with a Splitfire plug but don't buy into all the hype. They work like any other. All these multi-electrode plugs are nothing new anyway. They were being used in WWII on aircraft but not for power but rather reliability. Use any plug you feel comfortable with or have heard good things about. The only plug I don't recommend are Accels, I wish I knew who made these pos.

 

Back in the day they were made by Nippendenso.
I've also been told that Champions are prone to cracking.

 

I would stay away from NOS plugs, unless you are going for the 100% stock look. No reason to use old world technology, when the plugs manufactured today are far superior to what was made 30+ years ago. In fact, this is one of the only things that i can say positive about new service parts for our old cars. I use NGK in all my cars.

 

Never used NGK. ACDelco was the mainstay.

Just looking for some added "bolt-on" performance. If that is even a true statement.

 

Splitfire only carries "copper classic" and platinum. The "V" product was discontinued. Looks like the hype was all BS.

NGK is THE only plug I will run in an Oldsmobile, or anything for that matter. Well, I do have an old lawnmower that gets the cheapest crap available.

Don't let all the hype fool you about other plugs. Platinum plugs are for longevity, not performance. Sh*tfires are hype.

Gap your plugs according to factory recommendations (slightly larger for performance application) and be done. There is some playing around you can do with hotter or colder plugs and gap size, but you won't know what it's doing to performance unless you're on a dyno or at the track. THAT BEING SAID - there is no plug out there that is going to ADD horsepower, only plugs that will spark when they're told to no matter what the circumstance. NGK has always fit that bill for me, and many race teams.
