Cowl Tag TR 973

Does the 973 specify anything besides blue, since there were several numbers which also meant blue ?

Does it mean blue buckets ? blue bench ? blue cloth ? blue Cutlass interior ? blue Delta interior ?

Anyone know the complete meaning of 973 ?

What year and what model? I think the codes changed from year to year.

In 68 973 was blue interior, bucket seat, in a holiday coupe (section 0 page 185 of the assembly manual)

I think all 973's were vinyl

In 1971 it meant blue bucket seats, In 1972 my source doesn't specify the seat style.

The TR, or trim, code indicates the interior color and front seat type. My book (covers model years '65 through '72) shows a 973 code only for 1970, and it is blue with strato bucket seats. My book also shows that the 973 code was used only on convertibles in 1970. However, my reference book is not consistent with what the AIMs show (reference the other 2 responses). I'm curious about the seat coverings as well. All I've seen is vinyl in 442 models and I believe leather was used solely in the big cars of that time. I wonder if cloth was available, perhaps in the F-85 or Cutlass models.

This is the 68 assembly manual page

A small "v" after the number indicates "vinyl". I assume the others are cloth

Although rare, I know the '69 'A" bodies had a cloth interior available.
I had a '69 W-31 with a cloth interior, sort of a paisley (sp?) pattern as I remember.
Only one I ever saw like it.

Always use the Chassis Service Manual or Assembly Manual for your year vehicle. "V" always indicates Vinyl. In many years, the 4-doors could have cloth, with only the base 2-doors receiving cloth.

Those of you with 1964-72 can check out the codes for your years at: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...=9990340731914

'70-'72 Supreme 2 door hardtops with bench seats could also have cloth. Blue and green seem to be the most prevalent cloth colors on those cars.

Rather than speaking in general - I still suggest checking the Chassis Service Manual for the year of your car.

Change orders for things like trim and optins also came through during the year and they show up in service and marketing bulletins. We have a limited inventory on Wild About Cars at this moment, but if you send an e-mail to: oldsbrands@wildaboutcars.com , our Olds Brand Manager/Olds Archivist MAY be to see if our paper library contains anything.

This is one of the reasons why we are building an extensive library (we already have over 22,500 pages of material) of official Olds documentation. If you have a question, check out our "Vault" at http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...late.cgi?id=11.
