looking at a 66 post 4 speed

Okay I know..........

I don`t have time for the 67 I`m doing

but this might be the right car

I looked for over a year trying to find a buildable 66 and found nothing but rot buckets

what I know so far....

car complete minus M20 this a floor shift non console car needs front floor which come with the car
needs full trunk

needs some quarter panel work both sides..... I have both sides here in the shop if need be

needs a door skin is good but frame is gone...

this thing is a long distance buy If I do it.... no transport I would have to get it or have someone I know pick it up............

I want this but honestly need some reasoning

comes with a 455 core no original motor..

frame powder coated plus extra trunk and hood

2600 takes the car

what do you guys think..... honestly

That I wanted to PM him about it as soon as I saw the post on TC . I have other things tying up any spare money I have right now so I resisted temptation.

sounds like the right car, buy it and youl figure out transport easy enuff. Pat up island may have sum parts as well. you gotta put your car ( the 67 ) together to sell it to make room, motors no prob, tranny is $500, no console saves you $800, go for it

ya, thats a clean looking car, auto, but wes wanted a 66 before settling for his 67, so he should have this car. and as long as he doesnt do a frame off he might actualy get to drive the damn thing before he retires

Reminds me of my 67 when I towed it home. I did not think it would need so much even though rot was minimal. Think about when you will get to it and how much $$ is needed be realistic....after all common sense goes out the window, Buy It!

The peices look aged enough that they aren't repops at least. I'd pull the rear door panels and see if there are welded up holes from "cutlass" emblems in front of hte rear wheels. If they aren' there, that fact along with all the aged 442 trim, i'd venture to say your safe calling it a real 442. Probably a few of the real experts can give a few more things to look at that would give you hints if its real or not.

And the usual things to check like boxed control arms and anti sway bar. It does have front fender vents and hopefully original shifter hump....looks legit to me and hope for a posi rear!

Have to wonder if the replacment frame is a 4spd frame or an automatic one. Henry

Yes it is a 66 442 but I have not seen the cowl tag on it yet

The car is sitting on a 4 door frame that he put under it for blasting puposes original frame is powdercoated put away... his plan was to build it but ended up with a 70 chevelle

I am sending him a note to get pics of the rear and I still want to see the interior and 4 speed hump plus the cowl tag

heh... with a 2 1/2 year old running around its impossible to say.

Just call when you can. I think i'm getting an escape pass for the late afternoon/evening though, so that might be best.

Sunday is out, we'll be busy all day with stuff.

4 speed frame would have the z-bar bracket on the frame. I am not sure of any other differences.

Go for it, it's a better starting point than I had. It looks like all of the 442 parts are there, the hood, fenders, tail lights, trunk trim, if you get the right frame you've got most of the hard to find parts.

Good luck
