Haven't posted in awhile but I had to show you some pics. I am usually never surprised at what I see over here but this was a new one for me. I have seen hardtops chopped off to make convertibles but they never have a top so they are only used when the sun shines which is quite alot over here. But this Cutlass had its top chopped and fitted with a working convertible top, the kicker was it was a 4 door model. Bet you have never seen a 4 door Cutlass convert. Well here she is with shaved door handles no less.

Glad to see you back on the site, wondering where you have been? That's a nice looking convert. Wonder how they took care of the body and frame flex? Be interesting to see the chassis.

I will give the guy credit. it looks like he tried really hard to actually build a complete conversion instead of just hack the roof off. looks like a lot of work but it is nice to see someone actually think through to the end and actually build a functioning piece.

Very interesting car, don't think I have ever seen a 4dr Cutlass convertible.

 

I am more amazed to see a white Christmas tree in the background.

Yea, it always surprises me in a country of 99% Buddhists all the Christmas decorations here. They are singing Jingle Bells in the mall. Tree looked good at night too.

Here's a pic of it with the top up. And yes we have McDonalds over here along with KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut and many more.

Yikes! It's different anyway, that guy must of really wanted a Cutlass convertible bad to do that. It had to have been a four door hardtop, maybe an elephant sat on the roof and crunched it and the guy said what the hey y'all and decided to make it into a vert.
Better than driving around a moped with your whole extened family , the dogs and a goat hanging off of it.

They should of put in a top well in and moved that top back where it should be. That's a basic cut the top off and bolt a roof on to the package deck deal, I would doubt if it's power. It gets real awkward back there with the top stacked up like that and half of it hanging into the back seat.
It's still hella-cool though.

Nice Christmas trees, that 1% Christian population must spend some bucks for the stores to do that, probably get a lot of tourists I would imagine. My bro in law lives in Singapore with his Chinese wife and their kids Nick and Tony, those are ancient Chinese names BTW.

 

That red top is something else. I kind of like the way the exterior mirror are mounted on the fenders there, they did that in Japan too. It doesn't work for all cars but is definitely different and gives a flare you never see here in the US.

I'm in Japan now and yet to see a Cutlass (or even Oldsmobile in general). Did see a chevelle SS and 65 Impala though. Still keeping my eyes open.

 

I wondered about those mirrors myself! Wonder what it cost to convert the 4 door, and what the guy driving does for a living????? V-e-r-y unusual.

 

Suicide rear doors would really set it off. I like it.

 

How about that Mc Donalds in the background? Probably a Wal Mart around the corner too

Cool pics ! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to remember the next time I'm frustrated trying to find parts that it could be a whole lot worse...There's some serious ingenuity on some of those....


I think the green one is a (late 70's ?) Nissan Gloria. Not sure about the brown one....the roofline looks vaguely Datsun/Nissan B210-ish....but the grill/nose looks more Toyota...

Those are, if I can recall, a Datsun and a Toyota, from left to right.

Those used to be all over the roads. They're what killed off GM and Chrysler.
But they were such crap that they disintegrated after a few years, leaving behind nothing but a memory of "Jap crap" that lingers to this day in the minds of many Americans.

Their great-grand children are made in America and go 200,000 miles between oil changes, or so I am told.

The guy who owns the car is a general in the Thai army. His unit is in charge of security for the Royal Family. He has about 50 American cars and is president of the Thai American Car Club. He is a really nice down to earth guy, just like the rest of us car guys.

 

So long as he's not clamping the jumper cables on your huevos...
