Value of 1969 H/O intake

What is a fair price to pay for a correct 1969 H/O intake in mint condition?

Well

My first question would be. Are you SURE it's not a Chris Whitt repo?

Enquiring minds need to know.

OK, I'll try to make it more interesting.
I got a call from a local person in Austin who I dealt with 10+ years ago, but has been out of the Olds for a while now. He has this intake and wants to ask a FAIR price. I told him I'll ask the experts on this site.

Talk about unobtainium! I think $6500 is pretty accurate in a good market but it's tough to guage what the market will bear right now. I've been told $3500-$5000. They simply don't exist so the right buyer with deep pockets won't mind spending that for the right part. Last one I remember sold for $1800 in 2008 and it was pretty rough.

One sold on E-Bay 2 years ago for $11,000, but that was from the guy who runs The Parts Place in Illinois, probably a fake sale.

Right time, right part, only need two crazed bidders - I watched the sale - looked good to me. I]d sell the car that doesn't have the manifold and buy a new car with the manifold before I'd pay that much just for the manifold.

'69 H/O intakes are cast iron. Nothing super special about it. '70 to '72 are the ones getting the money.

From a performance stand point they're nothing special but since it is exclusive to the '69 H/O it can very important piece of a correct restoration.

I still wonder what happened to that $11,000 intake. I bet that guy would love to rethink that one. That was sold back when the economy was strong. Now 69 H/O's are $50,000 tops, for a show winner, with full documentation, and even then they don't sell. I haven't seen a 68 or 69 H/O at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson in at least a year. The owners are hanging onto them because their values have dropped so far. Don't get me wrong, I think the 68/69 H/O's should be worth MORE than the 70-72 W-30's because of their rarity, but you can't change the demand. The last 69 H/O that went through Mecum was Oct 2009, and it stalled out at $48,000. Before that, there was a 69 H/O in May 2009 that was a no sale at $70,000, and that was a National Show Winner, matching numbers car. I think that same car was offered again in Oct. 2009, and the owner pulled it before it went onto the stage because the other 69 H/O stalled at $48,000. Values have dropped far on the H/O's.

So the guy that paid $11,000 for that e-Bay intake was probably a shill bidder, friends with the parts place guy, trying to drum up interest for the reproduction intake.

I think the Parts Place owner bought the H/O manifold so he could make repro's..

I don't judge anyone but I will never understand the "numbers matching" collector mentality. If somebody could repro EXACTLY a rare part, then what makes the original so special? I'm much more likely to by Edelbrock heads from my 65 425 than search and pay for "D"s. I guess that makes me more a resto-mod guy.

All that said, I LOVE to watch the auction shows. Again, to each his own and that's what makes life interesting.

I am right there with you on that one. I had a friend building a LS6 Chevelle. He pulled his hair out and about went bankrupt looking for just the right date coded parts. No thank you.

The parts place guy SOLD the intake for $11,000, he didn't buy it. I think it was a phony sale so he could then sell repros saying that 'real ones are worth $11,000'. the guy is a piece of work, so I wouldn't put anything by him.

If you add up the price for a set of heads 6500 seems to be the price people are looking for or above a intake at say 4500 and a ram air upper plenum at 3000 ,14,000
