For about $1500 you can find a convertible that needs a restoration. You couldn't come close to converting it for that kind of money.

The whole body is different. There are interior braces, the trunk lid isn't the same, the frame is boxed, the vent windows are different, the windshield frame is different. I could go on but you get the idea

But to answer your question...no, I never have (not in an Olds anyway)

Now my wife's last car was a 94 Nissan 240SX convertible. The car was converted from a coupe to a convertible by ASC in California. They did all the "factory" 240SX convertibles

I have seen it done twice. Half-a$$ would be a completment. Both cars were later junked because of lack of stucture. Unless you want to destroy a car it is not worth it.

On any original hardtop the roof structure provides part of the support. As such the frame rails are not as heavy duty under the vehicle. If you cut off the the top the car will eventually (rather quickly) sag in the middle. Most likely the doors will jam. I have heard of people attempting to reinforce the frame by welding a 1/4 inch thick piece of steel the length of the frame, but there were always problems. If you're very attached to the car body and interior you have I suppose you can move it to a convertible frame if you can find one, but as someone else mentioned not sure if a coup body would fit properly.

Probably every car that was made into a convertible wound up being crushed.

It will probably go for more than $1500 because it's a 442. Looks like the floors need a lot of work
