removal of instrument cluster on 55' Olds 98

Hoping for some help for a newbie to this from some old hands. I have removed everything from dash for repaint on my 1955 Olds 98. except instrument panel with speedometer. I have everything disconnected and brackets removed from rear, but don't see anyway to remove the unit from the front without either lowering steering column or removing dash pad. Asking for any advice, suggestion, diagrams, any help I can get in order to enjoy my Oldsmobile more.

I'm confused if you're having the car repainted why are you taking the dash apart ? If you're re-painting the bottom of the dash just mask everything. The chrome trim on the front of the dash would have to be removed also. Plastic trim tools will solve that. If you don't have one yet purchase a re-production service manual on eBay it will be a wealth of information, hope this helps.
