I will be in the Detroit area next week for a few days. I plan on getting an early start one day and driving out to Lansing to see the REO Olds Museum. I have another half day to visit another museum/collection. Wednesday or Thursday. Any suggestions ? Is the GM Heritage Center an option ?

 

The Henry Ford Museum! Plan on half a day at the very least.

Check out the Gilmore Car Museum gilmorecarmuseum.org It's about another hour west of Lansing. Plan on a half day on this tour also.

 

Sloan Auto Museum in Flint Michigan..Many do not realize Flint was the true beginning of the auto industry

 

I'll second this, a truely amazing place, with far more than just cars.
If you have the time, you can also take a tour of the Ford truck assembly plant from this location

 

The Stahl Museum is another good spot in the area, although it is only open on Tuesdays and the first Saturday of the month.

The GM Heritage Center is not open to the public.

 

GM museum is closed for a year I heard, relocating to Grand Blanc
lunch at Duggans on Woodward is nice

 

2X Gilmore and Henry Ford Museum

 

If your looking for a cool car themed restaurant in the Detroit area, "Vinsetta Garage" is your ticket. Vinsetta Garage on Woodward Avenue (location of the famous Woodward Dream Cruise) was the Hot Rodders performance Mecca back in the 50's - 70's and is now a restaurant full of pictures and memorabilia from the heyday of Detroit Muscle. Also a very cool and nostalgic place to get a pic of your car if you can. Here's a pic of my car out front in the pic staging area.

 

I used to get carbs, alternators, and starters rebuilt at vinsettas, pricy for a bugler joint, long waits, I like Mavericks, not car themed, but it’s been on Woodard for a long time. Duggans upstairs is the best
Check out the Henry Ford Museum. A lot to do there, there’s the village and a Ford plant tour.
make sure you get a coffee at the Hot Spot, look it up( the girls may like a Gold 442, I don’t know)
