Throttle cable

How do you remove the throttle cable from the fire wall on a 71 cutlass?

First remove all the carpet, padding, etc. so you can see the piece from inside the car. Then look at the cable attached to the throttle pedal. There's a round plastic grommet in the pedal that has a cut on one side, push the plastic piece toward the seats and out of the pedal assembly. Spread the cut to take the cable out. Then there's a square hole in the firewall and the cable has two sides that have flared pieces that are spread to hold it in. I've had the best luck using two small standard slot screwdrivers to press them in and push it out into the engine compartment. I know you'll be standing on your head to reach this, but with some patience this should work. If my description of the two flared sides is not clear you might try logging onto one of the repop web sites to find a photo of it. John

The two flared sides are the same at the carb end, just have to move head to other side of fire wall to see double image...

Use either a 1/2" or 9/16" open end wrench on the flares to close them up so you can pull it through. JKaz
