Different type of Exhaust question

Evening all,

Almost done the project ..alignment & exhaust remaining. Need to get exhaust on it before I can drive to get final alignment.

Patient is a 72 442 convt, 350, 4-speed, with hooker super comp headers. I already have collectors to reduce to 2.5 inch pipe which I plan to run. I would like to have H-pipe cross-over .. not X-pipe cross over ... and I have cutouts in rear bumper. Looking for stainless system.

Most folks inquire @ sound ... I know what mufflers I want .. I am more interested in folks experience with exhaust systems .. from collectors back.

Question that come to mind:
How easy was it to install in your garage or driveway?
How did it fit?
Easy to line up with cutouts?
Alot of cutting required?
How is it holding up to weather/rust.

Appreciate any feedback/recommendations

Jim

Question that come to mind:
How easy was it to install in your garage or driveway? With the correct pipes, hangers U clamps & band clamps, easy. The premade H pipe kit is nice. Band clamps make it removable for service. Do your homework on the proper location. Closer to the engine is better.

How did it fit? With the factory like bent pipes cut to mate with the collectors, correctly configured mufflers (offsets), correct bent tailpipes, and all hangers in the stock locations, the fit should be good if you take your time. Dry fit everything measure 3 times cut once. Do not tighten it up until it's all loosely hanging in place and adjusted to where you want it.

Easy to line up with cutouts? Again if you have the factory-bent head & tailpipes, correct muller in/outlet offsets and hangers etc, yes.

A lot of cutting required? Trimming yes. A sharp Sawzall even a sharp hack saw can work. De burr all cuts. Use a worm gear clamp as a cutting guide to get straight cuts or buy a good pipe cutter. Use the band clamps vs the U clamps. Cleaner tighter fit and come apart easily. You will likely need straight and stepped band clamps. Of course, the hangers will require U clamps. I buy many extras and take back what I don't use. Get good heavy gauge U clamps with serrated nuts. No chineasium junk!
Assemble everything with a small dab of copper anti-seize. You will thank me later.

How is it holding up to weather/rust. Aluminised holds up fine on a fair-weather car. It's cheaper and doesn't "grow" like stainless will. The stainless growth can stress headers and make the system stick out beyond the bumper more than intended once up to temp,

Appreciate any feedback/recommendations

FYI approximate trumpet distance from the bumper. Same for 68-72
In or out too far looks wayyyy funny.
