I have a high quality Super 88 Holiday Coupe .. original battery tray & tiedown parts & a vintage battery with "Delco" imprint .. apparently the battery is of original size & fits well with the tie down parts .. tried 3EE battery of approximately the same size as current battery is weak .. new battery is too tall & the tie down parts won't fit (rods not long enough to attach to tie down cover .. cover bracket sits too high off fender well). Question: any solutions other than buying another "vintage" battery (about $400 from battery mall central) .. presume most 53 Olds have evolved to different assemblies .. thanks

 

I had the same issue with my 55' but could never find a modern battery that would fit correctly so I bought the re-pop. At least here in Illinois.
