Question Who Sells Gas Tanks For Vista Cruiser

Looking for a NEW gas tank for a '70 Vista Cruiser....does anyone know if anyone is reproducing these? I heard they were identical tanks to an elcamino, except for the the filler neck location....is this true? Would also consider a used tank in excellent condition. No rust, no patches! Thanks!

Unhappy Nodody Do

I don't think anybody makes a '70 Vista Cruiser gas tank that I know of? I think The El Camino Tanks are like regular car tanks except the filler neck goes out the side?, maybe in earlier Vistas?

Tank leaking?

You do know I just had mine repaired at a radiator shop? Must be something going around. It was weird that mine just had one tiny pinhole, it was really clean inside otherwise so he hot tanked it then soldered up the hole and pressure tested it and it's fine. Waiting for the lousy fuel pick-up screen to arrive from rockauto held me up longer than taking tha tank out and having it repaired. I should have ordered it immediately but I assumed any dealer or parts store would have one. There wasn't one on it when I took it apart so somebody messed with it before. Took no time to put back in after I got that thing.

I don't know of a company that makes [or sells] them But be sure to use a vented cap or the gas tanks will get too much preasure.

I checked and they still don't make them so far. Pre '68 Vista mounted flat under the car type yes, vertical quarter panel type no.
A guy just asked the same question in the Team Chebelle wagon section and got the same answer.

Hey Erik, With your welding and fabricating skills you should be able to patch the thing or make a new one, doesn't have to be fancy just not leak, you can hardly see it anyway.
I have seen fuel cells installed in the storage compartments.
It's not a real good idea, no room for the beer!

Both the '72 Vista wagons that were for sale at the last swap meet were dripping gas from the tanks.

Thanks everyone, Allen, John, mugzilla, jeffrey and Eric for input! Allen, the one now has been previously repaired by the last owner and has a couple of spots patched....it doesn't leak, but they sealed it on the inside with something red. When I pulled the tank and drained it, the gas was tinted the reddish color. I just figured it would have been cost effective to spend $150-$200 for a bolt in as opposed to the money and labor to clean up this one and reuse it!

my cousin coated several 3 wheeler tanks with this red sealer. it works good but his also got red color in his gas. it never hurt anything and clears up after about a year. the red will go past the filter. i don't know if it will hurt anything but never did on the 3 wheelers he did.

"The car was sitting for 12 years before we bought it and the gas tank was full of rusty old gas so we installed a fuel cell"...

See if he will sell the one in the fender and gain somee valuable space ...
