Apparently the latest "nose and glasses" trinket to disguise your embarrassingly fugly LS motor is a fake distributor and coil pack relocation system. Yeah, those mile long plug wires won't be a problem AT ALL....
If there is a aftermarket part for a LS engine, someone will buy it.
Im kinda surprised a carbureted manifold is produced for the LS engine. Why would anyone bother swapping in a modern EFI engine and then spend money for the old school carb? Yet people do it, just because they want the old school look. I seriously doubt you can argue swapping on a carb is cheaper, you still need to buy the manifold, then the controller for the ignition, that money would probably go a long way towards a complete EFI computer to run everything.
You can even get a dual quad intake for an LS. Note, however, that the engine in my first post does have EFI. You can see the injectors and fuel rails. It just uses a 4bbl throttle body that looks like a carb, because the stock intake is so fugly.
I have been contemplating an LS swap in my Chevelle. I certainly understand the intake because of appearance, but Fuel Injection for sure. I absolutely dont understand the distributor. Thats insane
There are a lot of advantages to coil-on-plug (or coil-NEAR-plug in the case of the LS). This pretty much negates all of them.
Totally true. I can't explain it, but I get visceral revulsion of people doing fake mechanical stuff. I don't even like engine beauty covers on modern engines. A modern advance in the science carries a look of progress and being better that this sort of stuff just ruins. Even Doc Brown's DeLorean was (fictional) form over function. Everything on that car had a purpose.
3 idler pulleys and a tension pulley..... more completely useless ****
That's unfortunately a function of the stupid aftermarket serpentine system. And don't get me started on the psuedo-serpentine systems sold for engines like the Olds with conventional rotation water pumps.
There is apparently a ton of money to be made selling worthless crap that impresses the uninformed. How many people wet themselves over those less-than-worthless Offy dual quad intakes, for example? And then there were these lovely design pieces...
At least the valve covers are on right.
