70 cutlass with 71 bumpers?

I have come across a cutlass listing with a 70 vin the bumpers are not 70 looks like 71 with rounded parking lights and horizontal tail lights.
Not sure if there is a typo on the vin.

Is it possible for a late in the year 70 to be built with 71 bumpers?

To answer your question no.But, It is not uncommon after 50 years for bumpers to be swapped on cars. 1970-1972 was an easy interchange, and frequently it was done when the correct bumpers weren't readily available, but bumpers for the other year(s) were. More than likely, that car was hit front & rear, not necessarily hard, but our old bumpers couldn't take much abuse back then.

The rear bumpers interchange from 1970-72. The fronts require changing the core support, grills, and hood. Does this car have 70 grills with a 71 bumper? Must look like crap. And NO, the factory never built 1970 cars with 1971 bumpers.

Interesting

A: The car is a 1970 with 1971 442 bumpers that were installed (new) based on personal preference.

Did he change the front driver fender based on personal preference as well?

The CL ad is just a copy/paste from one of those "auto facts" websites. The car has a LOT of questionable issues. The rear axle is a 71-72 corporate ten bolt. The 71/72 front bumper clearly doesn't go with the 70 grills. The "untouched" engine bay has all kinds of alarm bells going off (what's with the corporate blue paint on the oil fill tube, for example?) Another "Danger Will Robinson" car.

Just a tad more than on the oil fill tube.

Looks like the just swapped bumpers so should be an easy fix. They also used a 69 hood tooth because the 70 would have been too long and hit the bumper. The problem is the 69 tooth is too short. Doesn’t look as bad as I would have thought though.

But...but... that's an "untouched" engine compartment. Says so right in the ad! Must be the rare factory aluminum water pump and E-brock intake option...

Yeah probably wearing it's original #8 heads. Of course 310 sounds much better than 165 hp.
