Just curious what thoughts are on a ‘71 442 apparently documented with broadcast card as real W30, however without original motor.
Nice looking survivor.

Yes nice car, was just curious what my fellow Oldsmobile enthusiasts thought of it.
I picked up a 71 this summer, 3rd 442 since my high school favorite and the namesake of my handle on here, so not currently in the market - but always interested in what’s available out there.
And on a side note, honored to be confused with Terry😎

One of the things in the classic car community that I wonder about is why people think it is the sheetmetal of the car that matters in a special powertrain option car, and not the powertrain itself. If you don't have the original engine, it's better than a small block Cutlass, but a numbers 442 is more impressive now than it is.
Also, NOM engine could mean "we cracked the block racing it and got a service replacement block but all heads, manifolds, carb, and rotating assembly are original." Or, it could mean "previous owner took the engine for his 442 and sold it to me as a roller and I put a smogger 75 455 in there." The first example would still take a 20% price hit on my offer, and I wouldn't consider the second one.
You're basically paying premium for badges and stripes at that point, since you can take a 442, build a 455 for it, and hang a w-25 hood like 99% of everyone else, for less money.

Well said, that speaks to my main curiosity Koda. It seems to have been born a W 30 with the broadcast sheet, and as we know Lansing built cars typically don’t have a build sheet. But without the original W 30 motor what is left? Was also wondering about the K heads - and how they compared to F, E and Gs.

Sure looks a lot like this one that was for sale through Mecum at one time, even the same dealer emblem

Back on eBay after an extended showing on FB marketplace. Sounds like a different seller however and there is no mention of the replacement engine. "mostly unmolested and original REAL442 W30"... yeah right..
same car

I clicked on the link and I can't find the car. Convertible or hardtop?
I hope all is well.
Hi Harry, it’s a hardtop - that link you tried was from November so probably no longer valid, here it is listed currently on eBay. Looks a bit rougher than I remember 🤔

Or perhaps you prefer a convertible - which Harry I know you do, no AC though.
Here is a non W30 beauty in Charlotte, Nice to see its original stripe package as well.

You're absolutely right. I will only buy a convertible. You're also right about the beautiful '71 442 convertible with 442 stripes, except the car does not have factory air, unfortunately.

I may wait for Fred to sell me a '70 or '71 factory air convertible. I have been trying to buy a car from Fred for several years and Fred won't sell!! Not an issue of price. I hope I live long enough.....lol
