A Facebook discussion about transmission production quantities under " Everything Oldsmobile, buy, sell, trade" produced these two pages. Anybody seen this before. I asked for the original source however no reply yet.

I bumped into it. I did not think these numbers were available. Are these numbers legit? If they are for 442's what about anything else. Why not for Cutlass and any other options. Any idea of the origin?

So here's the problem I have with those numbers, at least on the second page. It shows 1970-72 442s as "Cutlass Sup. Hardtop C" and Cutlass Sup. Convertible". Huh? If the "Sup." is supposed to stand for Supreme, obviously that's wrong - there were no Supreme hardtops built as 442s. In 1972, it should be Cutlass Hardtop, Cutlass S Sport Coupe, Cutlass S Hardtop, and Cutlass Supreme convertible, but there are no 72 sport coupes even listed.
Expect to find substantially more than that once you remove the stainless trim. The resulting water leaks also mean that there is rust below. And expect to find substantial rust in the piece that runs along the bottom of the back window. I'm also guessing that the area around the windshield isn't much better.
This book has 442 production figures. Published in 1992. Tons of information and most of it is very accurate. It shows the 1972 car information correctly.

I have a 1972 442 (W29). Flame Orange with M code VIN - 350 4B. It is equipped originally with M20 and has A/C and PS and PDB. It is a single owner car with 80K original miles. I am considering selling it.
Olds' built in or shipped to Canada there are records for every option the car came with.
Any Olds built in Canada or sold new there can get docs that show how that particular car was optioned. But it is not know, for example, how many of a particular model had a particular option like a/c, or bucket seats, or AM/FM etc. They can only tell you an individual car was optioned and how many of a certain model were imported or produced there.

you just have to pay for it. If they just descided one day to cease operating the history centre and made their records available to the public.
all you have to do is start counting which cars had which options and go through every model in each year
before when they sent you the info pack on your car, they would actually also send you the list of cars that came with your car. I don’t know if it was by train or car hauler, but I got sheets of cars, VIN numbers, options etc.. not just mine

VVS does not allow access to the files to the general public and there is no compilation of the records. Do you have any idea how many man thousands of hours of research would be involved in looking at every car built or sold in Canada and compiling statistics on how many of a certain car had certain options? It will never happen and no one would ever pay the price to have it done.

let’s say it’s me and I want to know how many 66 442 4 speeds were sold in Canada, red with black vinyl top,, or 68 442 auto post cars a particular color
all I need to do is go through and find those particular models. Not hard, one year, one model.
im sure it’s all on a data base where some smart kid could make a search engine to find them…even if it was all still on paper, go through the paper work for dates of shipping and sale , that is known.
many other manufacturers have the specifics options for each vehicle known..how did they do it? Probably long before computers so it was someone digging through and counting

GM of Canada/ Vintage Vehicle Services ( https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/ ) info is stored on microfische and when you contact them they search via the VIN and provide the info to you on paper/letter head. It would be nice to see the compilations of colors and options, but I agree that it would be quite a bit of work.

They will do it for you - you just have to pay $100 for every VIN that they look at. Cost prohibitive. They are a for profit business not a charity.

True, but every industry had their info on microfiche at one time. I worked in the nat gas industry and at one time our manuals were all paper, then transferred to microfiche, then floppy discs then other forms.
we sent them to a third party overseas like most industry did.
When you get your info pack now from the vintage Center, they tell you how many cars of that particular model where sold in Canada. So someone has already done that part

"Less than 138" means anything from zero to 137. I'm not sure that's a particularly helpful statement.

And my understanding is that these specific production numbers only apply to those vehicles which were imported into Canada or produced in Canada (Oshawa Plant).
