1969 442 air cleaner snorkel
Hello Everyone,
Ive been looking through the old threads this morning for measurements on the air cleaner base snorkel measurements for a 69 442. I cant seam to find them. Its my understanding that the 68 and 69 air cleaner housing are different in several ways.one being the location of the vac. diaphram that operates the door. I need a 69 442 cleaner assy. Because I didnt have the correct info i ended up purchasing a nice 442 assembly for a 68 442. Im currently looking at pictures of a 69 air cleaner assy for sale just wanting to be sure im getting what I need. Unfortunately the decal with part number is missing. Any help woud be appreciated. I think what im looking at is an assembly off a 1969 olds 98 4v 455

The snorkel on a '69 4-4-2 air cleaner is 9 1/2" long. The opening is 3 13/16" wide and 2 5/16" high. I believe the air cleaner snorkel on the 98 is longer and possibly narrower than the 4-4-2 air cleaner. In any case, they are definitely different. I'm guessing the 98 air cleaner would work but it wouldn't be the correct air cleaner for a '69 4-4-2.

1968 has a metal pie pan, the vacuum actuator inboard on the snorkel, and the breather tube on the driver's side. There is a plastic breather filter inside the housing that fits through a square hole in the side of the housing and is retained with a clip. The breather tube mates to this filter with a short section of rubber hose.
1969 has a decal, the vacuum actuator is outboard on the snorkel, and the breather tube is on the passenger side. There is no breather filter inside the housing. A rubber elbow snaps into a round hole in the side of the housing. The breather tube slips into this rubber elbow. The breather filter is in the conical breather that presses into the valve cover.

Well I guess the problem is the decal is gone. Someone on this sight is selling a nice looking reproduced decal the part # I got off of that was OS 6484804. I picked this car up in Fairbanks AK last year for a few thousand bucks. Its a complete car unmolested #matching all the way back to include the rear end. very very small amount of rust. Air clearner assembly and radiator top plate are missing. Hood was closed hard at some pont with hinges that needed attention but after 9 months of looking I found a very nice original 69 442 hood. I just got back from flying down to Arizona to creat it up for shipping. I'll keep looking for the other pieces.
