Whenever I order parts for my 67 Vista Cruiser I'm asked if it is a Custom or Base, what is the difference? And how do I know which mine is? Mine doesn't say Custom anywhere but the emblems have been off and don't know if they were all put on correctly.
The answer is: it doesn't matter. The only differences between the base and custom Vistas in 1967 are minor trim items. Here's the complete list. None of this effects parts you plan to buy except things like upholstery and interior trim items.
Extra standard equipment on Custom Vistas:
Deluxe arm rests
Deluxe inside door release handles
Full floor carpeting
Woodgrain vinyl applique and associated stainless trim
Chrome drip rail molding
Chrome window frame molding
Foam padded seat cushions
Deluxe steering wheel
Rear seat sun visors
By the way, if one did order a base Vista in 67, all that stuff that came standard on the Deluxe was available on the base as options.
And finally, to answer your question, look at the VIN. A base Vista has a VIN that starts 334... A Deluxe Vista has a VIN that starts 338... Note that the base Vista only came with three rows of seats. The Deluxe could have been ordered with either two or three rows.
