1972 Cutlass Hood Help

Had to remove my hood for a few months and finally went to put it back on today and things don’t look right.
I had four helpers place the hood back to its original position and have locked down with the two front bolts in their original position. However the back bolt hole of the hing leave about a 3/8 “ gap between hood and support. Are there suppose to be spacers or washers between the the two parts? Or do you just tighten down the bolts leaving a gap?

There should be a spacer for the aft bolts. I believe it is part number 402025.

Thank you. I’ll see if I can move the car out and search for the spacers... or go hit the store or junk yard

Advanced auto sells a variety pack of shims very similar to the original. Id have to assume you could get the same from Rock Auto. If you have a body supply near you they would definitely have them.

Most of the Olds restore parts suppliers carry them.

My experience has been that when you loosen the bolts to remove the hood, the spacers slip out and fall into the gap between the back of the fenderwell and the firewall. They don't always make it to the ground and end up lost forever.

Almost every time. On the bright side the fender usually rots out in this location so if you wait long enough you can recoup them with a magnet.
