Has anyone ever bought one of these CD's. It contains complete shop service and Fisher body manuals for all 69 models. It's only 30 bucks and $6 to ship so it wouldn't be a great loss if it sucked. I figure I'll probaly funk up a few things along the way during a resto, so why not have something to blame it on besides my lack of skills? Thanks for the input.

I don't have either, but have heard that on some of them some information will be missing. Also that you don't have the computer there in the shop. Others have thought it was nice because you could print up the section you need without worrying about needing to keep it nice. get the disk for convenience, buy the book for thorough knowledge. seemed to be the gist.

Hi, I've recently brought a 69 cutlass and like you lack the skills what books have you got to help you restore it if you don't mind me asking

 

The Factory Assembly Manual is probably the best resource, then the the Service Manual, and finally the Fisher Body Manual.

In my experience the Service Manual is a decent resource but is more complicated, and the reference a lot of GM specific tools which you won't have. The Fisher Body Manual is pretty much worthless for anything except installing windows and convertible tops (I know a lot of people won't agree with me about the last one but that was MY expereience)

 

Which is all well and good, until you've got to adjust windows, or install a top...
... or troubleshoot the power windows or the windshield wipers (late-'60s and later),
or have a problem with dome lights or power seats...

If you can't fix almost all those with the wiring diagram in the Service Manual you'd be lost with the Fisher Manual. There's a whole section in the Service Manual dedicated to the Wiper Motor

There are no diagrams of power windows or seats, or of the entire courtesy lighting circuit, in the Chassis Service Manual.

As I alluded to, the wiper motor information is included in earlier Chassis Service Manuals (up to about '68 or '69).
After that, it is in the Fisher Body Manual.

We could go back and forth all day. I agree that the Fisher Body Manual goes into detail about how to install and trouble shoot many things. I completely disassembled my car and reassembled it, every single nut and bolt. I needed the Fisher Manual to align the windows and install the convertible top. Here's a cut of the courtesy lamp wiring from the 68 Chassis Service Manual. It's enough for me to figure out that orange is hot and white goes to ground. If it is not in the 69 manual, I stand corrected.

BTW I also used my Fisher Body Manual to make sure my frame wasn't bent (or course taking any two measurements in a diagonal gives you a pretty good idea of that too)

The organization at WAC still needs some tweaking. I found the Chassis Service Manual but still can't find the Fisher Body Manual. Maybe it's for multiple years ???

Edit again.....Eric, the courtesy light circuits are in the 69 Chassis Service Manual also so it must be 70 & up that they go the the Fisher Body Manual. I'm sick of looking for stuff & I'm going to finish my lunch now

Not multi-year, but multi make. Fisher Body manuals are GM, not Olds, or Chevy, or.......well, you get it.
Seriously, we will eventually get more crosslinks put into the site, but we have been concentrating more on adding content and we only have so much time and help building the site. The FB manuals are there, and where they belong. So for now that will have to do.
