Found this on my occasional ebay crawl. Nice 67, and I do believe it's a 442, and they do have the protectoplate, but there's a little blurb in there about the "upgraded 1968 W-30 heads" which is a nice way of saying "these C heads won't match the paperwork" which calls the whole shebang into question. Bet the trans doesn't have the right tag either.
I'd want to see a window sticker linking the vin to a w-30, and then it still wouldn't be the original engine. Maybe that's why the price is a little low.
I guess the dealers still don't understand that when you have a convenient story for why important details don't line up, it only comes off as a prepackaged lie.

Oh, and "ultra-desirable 390925E casting"???

I will buy this car to get this block & throw the rest of the car away. Worth it.
Also, somebody tell this knucklehead this is bronze, not gold.
" Below that is the hallmark Olds golden block for the 400 cubic-inch motor"

Initially I was going to say, "I'm unsure of the problem - the seller admits the heads are not correct.:
But now I see that the beef is that it's posed as a W-30 (albeit without docs) but any self-respecting restorer would have the proper heads if it was a real W-30.

Exactly, also the engine number is on the heads pre-68. If I saw a car marketed as a W-30, with a protectoplate, and the matching heads from the plate that are C heads with plugged AIR ports, and a 442 cowl tag from the proper range, and the WOG (I think) TH400 tag, I would accept that as a documented W-30. The heads tie it all together.

OK, wait. I'm a little slow today...
So the car has the P-O-P, but not the original heads. How can it be "numbers matching"?
Best of all, according to the consignor, you're looking at the numbers-matching V8

Motor?
What irks me is that none of these cars was ever built with a "motor". They have engines. What is the difference? A motor gets it's energy from an outside source and an engine gets it's energy internally. I was paying attention in science class.

68 W30 heads would be D's, the tailpipes are not stock. The auto trans if original would be a clue to provenance. It does have the E on cowl tag which 67 W 30's seem to wear. Build date looks good. The paint/clear coat is too glossy for a true restoration. Nice enough car but the BS fluff is quite amusing.
