Idle load compensator
Idle load compensator
Can someone please post a picture of an idle load compensatory that will work on a 69 442. I fully understand they were not original to the 69 442. I need to do something that will help out on my 442. I now have to jack my idle really high to keep th e car from dying when I turn the AC on
Think about this: Would Oldsmobile have shipped tens of thousands of cars in 1969 that died every time the A/C was turned on? Would consumers have put up with that? Unless you've got a very high-duration cam (like the 328-degree factory W-30 cam), an Olds big block has more than enough torque at idle to turn the compressor without dying. What I'm saying is that your problem is elsewhere. Your ignition curve or carburetor needs adjustment, or you've got a vacuum leak.
Brian. Thanks for your reply. I agree with you 100%. I've been fighting my issue for several days now. Please see my other post "what fuel milage" for my ignition curve and I currently have an overhaul kit on order for my carb.
A lot of people have added an idle stop instead of jacking the idle up. The idle stop solenoid was used in tens of thousands of later cars. Its a matter of finding one that will work on your carb. You can buy a stop and modify the existing bracket it comes with or fabricate your own.
