wiring for the rear view mirror

I have finally laid hands on a replacement for the replacement rear view mirror in my '71 cutlass 'vert. It originally had one that had the wired up map light. The previous owner had replaced it with one that did not have one, but left the original with the parts that I received when I bought her. However, the wire had been cut off at some point.

I am assuming that the wire for the rear view mirror's map light will connect to the fuse panel, but I have found no mention of it in the CSM. Has anyone else out there had to work with these and knows where the connection is?

Chip,
The mirror should have a gray wire with a female connector that plugs into a gray wired male connector in the dash harness. The male connector should be somewhere above the parking brake.
I have been restoring these for a few months now & have a few very nice stainless & black bodied mirrors, both lighted & non lighted. I have the original glass pieces re-silvered & clean & polish all the parts & make sure the light works like it should, just in case you want to upgrade.

Yes, and if there's no wire above the parking brake (no lighting package option), then the wire plugs right into the IGN tap in the fuse block (could also use ACC, but as I recall, mine was plugged into IGN, and they did have unique plug ends, so they could only plug into one).

Chip & Eric,
I'm pretty sure (99%) that the A body cars all had the gray male plug built into the dash harness weather or not the car was ordered with the courtesy light package. Kind of like the clutch /neutral safety switch connector. It is there & if not used, it was just taped up out of the way.
Eric,
I'll take your word about the big car wiring as you are more experienced with them than I am.
I have seen other big G.M. cars with the mirror attached to the fuse block like you describe.

This was on a '70 Cutlass, Scott, but it was a "few" years ago, and there is always a chance that it had been modified (though it didn't look it), so I may not be right.

Either way, if he can't find the wire, either way will work.

Eric,

It was the IGN tap. A few screws, a little wire wiggling and everything connected up fine. Thanks again to you both!

What do you sell your mirrors for. Mine has the wire but the mirror has been changed of course. I want to restore the car to what it came with, mirror with the map light.

AJ & Lemolds,
I can refurbish yours & install a very nine looking resilvered glass piece & ship it back to you for about $65.00. That is assuming all the parts are there to begin with & everything is in decent to good condition. Or I can sell you one outright for $90.00. I also am looking for good lighted mirror core pieces & can barter a little if you have some. If you guys want, call or pm me as I don't want to hijack this thread to badly.
Thanks,
Scott
