Combination you like to drive

Question.. about your personal preference.

What combination you like to drive, and where?
For every-day usage, i highly prefer modern turbocharged diesel+automatic.
On work-machines i prefer full hydraulic ( automatic) control with diesel engines. And in trucks, i prefer suddenly 16-speed manual gearbox. Even ive driven conventional automatics and many robot-gearboxes.
Why? In tight places you have far more control what happens with manual and your own foot than you would have with slipping clutch ( robot gearbox) or slipping torque convertor. And i drive mostly in our capital with 24m long lorry in tight city-streets. It would even be prohibited without special permission.
Lately ive been questioning myself will i still want an 4-speed manual to my Cutlass. 4-speed+ punchy 350.. Mmmm-- When automatic is indeed pleasure to drive, its a bit dull especially in hobby car; where atleast i seek the exitement. Same goes for BBO.. Ive been wondering is that really what i want. It would be big engine in todays world especially. But would id be a bit dull to have all that torque down low? Closest experience ive been having was supercharged SBC. It had quite a punch down low; but as the revs rised it tamed down. Power-curve makes alot even if it has relatively high max.hp.
I dont know. I have almost full year to think about it until i start building one or another combo.

Tell your preferences meanwhile.

These days my daily driver is a turbocharged, intercooled, close-ratio 6 speed manual transmission all wheel drive vehicle with active suspension. It maintains the "fun factor" during what would otherwise be a boring daily commute. Nothing quite like hitting the freeway on ramp and banging 6000 RPM in three gears before standing on the brakes to slow down to merge into 70 MPH traffic.

Right now my daily driver is an Olds Powered 77 Pontiac Grand Prix with 270K+ miles on it because, let's face it.... it's winter here in Northeast, Ohio... albeit a mild winter so far. People tell me that I should be saving this car and keeping it out of the salt. But quite honestly, it's a 100 footer at best.

My daily driver April through November is the 78 Delta in my signature.

Why don't I have something more modern?

These are a piece of cake to work on and I have a stockpile of spare parts on the shelf in the attic of my shop to keep me going. Sure I pay a little bit more in gas. But I save in parts and mechanic's fees by not having to pay someone to work on something I can't fix.

GP is attached if anyone is interested.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Pontiac Grand Prix of that era on the street.

I'm a simple man. Now a days , I want an automatic trans, AC and a decent radio in the ride, and four doors for utility. The family ride.

For joy rides I have the Cutlass and a 79 Trans Am four speed. My pick up is a beater. I've never needed a four wheel drive or diesel power.

I'll admit I'm truck shopping.

My daily fun driver when the weather is nice and when I don't need to carry anything larger than a box of chocolates is my Miata. In bad weather or the need to haul or tow something I have a Dodge Durango. I have others that I use for specialty uses but that is my number one and two.... Tedd

Daily driver for my 180 mile 80mph round trip commute is a '97 BMW - 4cyl, manual transmission, rear wheel drive, just like God intended, and gets 30 mpg.

Good seats, good heat, good A/C and a good stereo, and no electronic BS.

It goes as fast as I want to, goes exactly where I point it, and my back doesn't hurt after sitting in it for six hours.

My new daily driver seats 12, can tow my camper, and fit a VW inside. That keeps me happy.

my preference for a fun car is a manual, rwd and enough power to ctually be fun, daily driver i like an auto so i dont have to "drive" and trucks i think i like an auto so from a dead stop you have converter slip instead of slipping the clutch, in towing situations. all that being said for a daily i switch between my 69 gmc thats an auto and my 66 f85 that has a t56.

2014 E350 work van I practically live in it. And no it's not turbo charged. It does have a wide variety of ladders on top with every tool a man could ever need.

I like the bench seat 4 speed cars. My friend and I were discussing how cool these were last Saturday night over a couple cold ones.
