Hey All,
Question ............ Is the word 'Jetaway' just a generic term for the Olds two speeds or more specifically to a unique generation of tranny. As well is the '69 two speed a Jetaway, TH 300, or the GM St 300?

 

Unfortunately they kept the name from the previous generation of transmissions which were four speed and have nothing in common at all with the two speed Jetaway. It was just a catchy name for marketing to promote in their ads.Now we have to sort it all out 50+ years later for those who are just running into this confusing anomaly.... Tedd

 

2-speed Jetaway is either a Jetaway (Olds), TempesTorque (Pontiac) or Super Turbine 300 (Buick). It has nothing in common with Chevy PowerGlide except they're both two speed torque convertor units.


1956-60 Jetaway HydraMatic is a different animal. Four speeds, fluid coupling, old style PNDSLR shift sequence and, in later years, the most refined 4-speed HydraMatic ever. Olds dropped it for the Slim Jim 61-64, while Cadillac and long wheelbase Pontiacs stuck with it thru 1964, and Cadillac commercial chassis thru 1966. Even Rolls Royce used it.


Then the ST300's big brother Super Turbine 400 appeared in mid 64 in Caddy and Buick, then the other Divisions got it for full size cars in 65 as Turbo HydraMatic 400.

 

OK ......... So then when parts are required I'm referencing a 300. I knew that the Powerglide was a totally different tranny. And as Ted says, The name Jetaway stuck through the years.
