Your wife
I just bought my second Oldsmobile--my wife asked me what I was going to do with the first. Does yours do that?

I have owned my 69 since I was 17, it’s not going anywhere. I have usually owned a second daily driver G body. Occasionally my wife will ask why I have 2 toys, in addition to my truck. I always come back with “how many pairs of shoes do you have?”

I have had as many as 34 vehicles at one time... My wife knew from the beginning what she was getting into when I cancelled our prom date back in the day when my vehicle needed a fuel pump... Need I say more...

Then she fell in love with the place

I had already sold my '66 4-4-2 convertible before I met my wife in college, but her brother had a '72 Cutlass in high school. I am very lucky that she has always loved cars and has been very supportive of me buying a Cutlass.

I can fit every article of clothing I own (including my vast assortment (four pair) of footwear into a space equal of about 2 columns on your closet. And my corner of the closet (according to my wife) is “cluttered”.

My wife and I discuss large purchases, too. It used to be anything over $100. Now it is maybe anything over $300.
But parts for my Cutlass do not get discussed. It is kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" situation, but she has assured me that the anniversary ring I promised to buy her a year ago for our 25th anniversary is getting bigger and bigger with every new thing I buy for the car.

My wife is the reason I have my 68. I retired from my company in 2014 after 32 years and when I did my wife told me I needed something to do and suggested I find myself another project car. I retired in January of 2014 and before the end of the month I had found my 68. My wife now will take anyone of her clients to the garage to show them my cars. She has been very supportive of my hobby and has not once said anything or complained about the money I have spent on them.

44 years married and we pretty much discuss most purchases except clothing although if its a dress or something like that she will always ask me how does this look and if I say it doesn't look good she wont buy it she says I have good taste to which I always reply I married you didn't I !!
As far as cars she knows I love them, she does not have a intense interest in them but she knows they make me happy.
I took a little convincing on my part for the 56 because as I have said in other post It kind of fell in to my lap and it was a decision that had to be made quickly with not much time to think about it, she said we just retired shouldn't we think a little more about this ? I convinced her that this was a deal that wasn't going to last long (and I wasn't lying )and now its in my garage.
If I had the $$ and the space she knows I would have several cars, and she wouldn't care.
I have nothing to leverage with when it comes to the well you have deal, she's a pretty simple woman no clothes obsession, no shoe fetish, no real hobbies. so life is good.

I am always dragging something home and she don't really question anything. She knows I sell enough parts to cover the costs of the hobby. No way I could afford this stuff if I didn't sell parts to pay for it. If it is more then a parts car or a junker then I talk to her about it. She always says to go for it because she knows if it is a bad deal I will walk.
Lucky for me she was with me when I got the 4 speed Jetfire I am restoring now. I was going to walk on that one and not buy it. She stopped me and told me she thinks I am wrong and should get it. I am SO glad she did that because I would have been very much wrong to have walked on that one.

My wife and I discuss major purchases. Well, I guess they're more like negotiations or a chess match. I got a motorcycle. I got a 2nd motorcycle. She got a bulldog. I got a 1967 442. She got a 2nd bulldog. I want a 1970 442 convertible. If I get one, and keep the 67, well you guessed it, she wants a 3rd bulldog. Do you have any idea what it's like to try and get a good night's sleep with 2 bulldogs in the bed, even if it is king sized! Now I love our dogs to death, but I can't even imagine a 3rd one in the bed at night, not to mention the additional poop scooping and other upkeep that seems to come my way even though they're "her dogs". I'm still stratigizing my next move, but she may have outplayed me into a stalemate!

I always ask my wife when thinking about any major purchase, and the answer is always "go ahead do what ever you want". Then almost always I think about it and don't buy it.... Recently I was interested in a snowmobile and trailer, I asked her and yep, she said go ahead and I didn't. I am the one who is a *****. She wants a new bedroom set and I see no reason for it. But I have come around and she will get her new set. Anyway I guess I am very fortunate. She loves the Olds and my old truck.

My life is like Greg's! I look at cars and worry about the next hidden bill that's gonna bite me in the ***! I would like to get a RWD 88 or 98 loaded up from the last design. I has to be a budget style purchase. A buddy of mine a discussing one of his cars, not Olds but a car that I had two of in my early 20's a FWD Z.

I'm blessed,
As I said above she is a simple woman and never really request much so on the rare occasion that she does want something I rarely resist and
say "what ever you want dear " however like dream 67 says it can be a bit of a chess game and sometimes you have to play, after all how boring would life be if I rolled over on every single thing so I'll throw in a little resistance every now and then. for example the one thing she does want and has talked about for years is a cruise to Alaska, over the years I have told her I don't know it's expensive, it's cold, its, dangerous etc... if the truth be known I would like to go as much as she does but I don't tip my hand to much so that when I finally say ok it will be a big deal !! (I'm a scoundrel) However my 3 daughters and their spouses kind of foiled my plan, for Christmas this year they joined forces
and purchased a sizable amount of Princess cruise line gift cards which has now forced my hand !! we have a appointment now with a travel agent to lay out the plan for her long awaited Alaskan cruise !! Covid has kind of screwed things up but the trip probably wont be till June of next year so hopefully things will have settled down by then.

LOL, my wife has a built-in shelf unit that size........for her RED shoes. The other shelf unit that contains her "shiny" silver shoes she turned into a "shrine" by adding color-changing LED lights around the perimeter (the SPARKLE!). My clothes are packed into ~1/5 of our walk-in closet. Then in the basement, in her "salon" (a 2nd MBR), she has another walk-in closet all to herself, and 2 more large shelf units for her boots. That's OK, my cars consume 3/4 of the garage space, and she says nothing about that. When I shop for car upgrades, I have to think in terms of "How many pairs of shoes is THIS going to cost me?"

I was looking at a Summit catalogue one day dreaming about engines, transmission, rear ends, big brakes, wheels and tires and my wife say's, "I don't know why guys like to drive so fast" and I said "I don't!". She then asked why I would need any of that stuff in the catalogue...without skipping a beat I said, "It's not the speed...it's the acceleration!"

I talked about one for YEARS ... sold my 74 camaro a month after we were married and drove lame cars till last October when Bad Martha pretty much fell into my hands ( and price range ) Asked the wife to pull the cash the next day and she did.

My wife is a saint when it comes to car stuff.
Not only is she beautiful but is also a good mechanic too.
Knows all the tools and always has helpful suggestions.
She has always helped me work on all our vehicles since we started dating.
She helped me change the clutch on my Firebird a couple times when she was 17.
I mean, right under the car, helping me get the transmission installed.
Farm girls are the best (she is actually stronger than I am).
Whenever I want something for the Cutlass, she says, you know how much
money you saved us over the years, fixing all our cars, get whatever you want.
Best move I ever made was marrying her. (it will be 37 years this fall).

Now when ever the subject of the 64 comes up in a conversation she says I HELPED MARK REBUILD THE ENGINE !! I just smile and remain quiet. I am blessed as well after 5 years dating and 44 years of marriage (wow 49 years together) she's still beautiful.

My wife knows I am an Oldsmobile guy.
Our first date was on a motorcycle 1979 Suzuki GS-750.
Our "second" date was in a 1972 Cutlass supreme, Silver.
A few years later we got married, I still had the 72-CS and also a 71-CS convertible.
We drove the 72-CS from the reception to the honeymoon suite[ All decorated in wedding stuff].
When the kids arrived I did the right thing and sold my Oldsmobile's and bought a Minnie Van.
[A happy wife is a happy life]
Later when the kids got older, I told my wife I am going to buy a car with "Glass Headlights".
A few weeks later I bought a pristine 71-CS.
I could not stop.
Eventually I had a 69-442 convertible, 70-CS, 71-CS all at the same time.
I suggested to my understanding wife, Hey I got 3 of the 5, I just need to by two more to compete the set, a 68 and 72.
She said NO.
I sold the 69-442 and the 70-CS.
I gave my wife the checks to deposit my our joint account and told her, it would not stay there too long.
I bought the 95-Vett convertible and had plenty of money left over to Repaint my 71-CS.
I still have and drive our First-Date Suzuki GS-750.
She's a keeper.
