Yet anonther "can you decode this for me" thread- 67 442

Hi everyone.

Been looking for a car with a production date of June 21, 1967. I can't imagine how many thousands of cars were built that day but you sure can't find one easily today. Found a car with 06C on the body tag, but have yet to hear about any paperwork that would give a specific date.

Can anyone tell me with relative certainty how many cars were built at the Lansing plant in a week? I thought I might be able to figure this out mathematically. The car in question is a 442. Here's the body tag info:

06C
ST 67-33817 LAN 28247 Body
TR 987-C L62B083 Paint
E 2ELR
5V LX-633

Thanks everyone.

06C is the third week of June which would be the 19th-23rd, assuming the 1st and 2nd were counted as the last week of May. Incidentally, my car is an 05E, which is that week.

67 Hardtop Cutlass Supreme, made in Lansing with a body number of 28247, which is almost exactly 1000 later than mine (which doesn't mean anything).

987-C is a champagne over black interior. You have a special paint code, which is the L62B083 code, and the LX-633 code.

E is tinted glass.
2ELR is AC, 4 speed on the floor, rear speaker
5V is 442

We just had a thread on special paint colors.

Top end of a car plant is pretty easy to figure out. About the fastest you can bang a car together is with a cycle time of a minute, or slightly less. Using a 60 second cycle time, that's a car a minute. In an 8 hour shift, that's 480 cars. Run two hours of overtime, and you're putting out 600 cars, assuming you have no downtime. Two shifts a day, and that's 1200 cars a day. 6000 a week. 7200 if you built Saturday.

Now, if you did 3 shifts of production, and built round the clock minus lunch, that would be around 1400 or so a day, 7000 a week, 8400 if you built Saturday. That's a theoretical maximum. My plant runs heavy overtime and puts out not that much.

Thanks Koda. I thought there was a discussion on special paint but I couldn't find it. I sent a question to the lister last week and his only response was Don't Know. I sent another question today and got the same response, but it looked like it was the same response, not a new one.

One thing is he has the engine listed as a 425, and I know those weren't in the 442. He has a lengthy description of the whole car but nothing about the engine. Odd. Guess I'll have to ask questions that can't be answered by Don't Know.

since factory documentation will be difficult or impossible to find - you need to set the parameters of acceptance for the car you seek.

are you looking for a body under construction on your birthday or a car being assembled on your birthday? have you gathered any additional info on cars built June of '67?

how many shifts did it take for a car to be built start to finish?

not perfect - but "ballpark"
ASSIGNED VIN & BDY number the earliest June '67 C/S hardtop VIN I have info on is:
338177M364010 06A LAN 28103 (surely it is not the first) & the highest I have for June is:
338177M391730 06D LAN 31623 (surely not the last & none from 06E accounted for)

treating all days equal & not counting any June Saturday/Sunday work = 22 days * what was the actual June '67 UAW schedule at Lansing?

27,720 assigned VINs / 22 days = average 1,260 per day * min. (6/21 is the 15th day) * VIN range 381650 to 382910
3,520 hardtop bodies / 22 days = average 160 per day * min. (6/21 is the 15th day) * 33817 BDY range 30343 to 30503

by this "math" the subject car falls short of 6/21 - but as cool as it is, I would call 06C the week you were born!

did you get the full VIN from the seller

I'd like to have a car that was finished on the 21st. I don't have a lot of information on the 67s, and I've got a request into the seller for the last six of the VIN and also the cast in engine number. I don't think he'll give me either. He's gone to great lengths so far to not answer my questions, so I might end up passing on this car solely because the seller is uncooperative.

Oh and I told him the car is painted the wrong color, according to the data plate. That should make him ready to help me out. He says the car is Tahoe Turquoise and it's original. Pretty car, though.
