Nope, it's not you Jeffrey

If you mean why aren't they all working when the brakes are on? You're right they should all be on if it was a Cutlass Supreme. However, it looks like the car may have a replacement bumper. Cutlass Supreme's also had backup lights in the middle of the bumper. Also the C/S should have the stylized C/S logo on the back where the key lock is if memory serves.

Compare this one to the pic you posted and you can see the obvious differences on the back end detail I was trying to put in words.

On regular Cutlass models, the lower lights would be white backup lights.

exactly my thinking - my grandmother had a non supreme with backup lights below the brake lights. Supremes were both red with backup lights in the bumper

I knew what I was looking at was neither fish nor foul

Umm, you mean neither fish nor fowl. This *is* "foul".

Correctamundo with the info. Probably a Cutlass Holiday Coupe with red lens in the backup light housings. With the brake lites working correctly.

English is sooo confusing yes that's what I meant - had to read it 3 times but yes.

It took me about a year as an 8 year old to understand why my grandmother's Cutlass had those HUGE backup lights

Car appears to be a 4dr as well and going by the H/O emblem on the trunk its probably one of the rare Hurst prototypes selling GM on the idea of a 4dr Hurst Olds!......Ahem...LOL

No, not a 4dr. Check out the Sail panel area. Clearly a 2 dr. But, also note through the front windshield the blower intake. THAT's why he can put the Hurst emblem on, right???? Everyone knows that if putting an old Hurst label on your car means no one's gonna challenge you on the authenticity.....

I can loan you my glasses.....my new ones should be delivered tommorrow
Check the right side of the car. Only 1 door handle. If it was a 4 door, you'd be able to see 2 sets of handles??

Anyway, the sail panel trim is recessed (if I'm wrong may flying monkeys infest my keyboard) and there is a sail just like the pic I posted. 4 doors window trim is also different. It's just really hard to see the actual sail because of the color of paint and the squareness of the picture to the back of the car.

Is it an Olds or a Chev? he probably does not have the original tranny or rearend. Just an Olds shell. he probably should not be on an Olds forum but on a hotrod forum

I think the "572 Chevrolet" valve covers give it away.

I don't think those are the same cars? The first picture shows a different dash and possibly a column shift. Also, it has some rust spots on the trunk, but the other picture shows a fresh paintjob. It is possible its a before and after shot though, lol.

The 4dr had 2 different roof lines/rear glass. One style glass was sloped like this one and the other bulged out like typical 4drs.

That would explain a lot. We had the typical 4 door pillared sedan with the bulged out rear c pillar. I learn something new every day. Good to be on the green side of the grass!

The pic Jeffrey posted: I really like the subtleness of the ghost flames. I almost didn't see them when I first looked.

Probably is the same car, just an after shot though. I don't think there's too many 4 door Cutlass sedans in that color with a blower sticking through the hood. Nice use of silver applique on the dash. Kind of Firebirdish, but it does look nice.

Wonder where the ignition went to. The dash switch looks to be covered over.

Yes, the Holiday Sedan (four door hardtop) and the Town Sedan (four door with post).

upgraded

He also upgraded the interior with the addition of a hurst olds air freshner? or whatever hanging off the rearview...LOL. must be the same car as he has the hurst olds emblems on the sides too

I think the car would've been cooler with no hood scoop, steelies with caps ( same tires but blackwalls out) and instead of the chevy used an olds motor... tripower would be cool too

my favorite part is the bullet holes in the trunk, but still it's a cool looking car, especially since it's a Holiday sedan. Love it. Nice interior too. If it was a Malibu I wouldn't look twice.
