Would someone care to splain

to me the purpose fo the rubber jack sleeve?

While I'm at it.

Is anyone aware of a site that lays out the various shades of black paint for Jacks, core supports, radiator top plate, pullies, brackets, hood hindges etc, etc, etc.

What I'm trying to figger out is, What is flat black, what is semi flat, what is gloss and/or semi gloss in some degree of detail.

I'm trying to detail a car and keep getting conflicting information..

[I am aware Jacks come in black and grey depending on the supplier and/or assembly plant.]

Jack sleeve is used to secure the jack handle to the jack for storage. Kinda like a big rubber band.

My 69 has clips to hold the jack handle in the trunk And you couldn't get a jack handle in the thing w/o K-Y anyway

The sleeve on my jack fit so tight that it seemed to have had no use (but since I bought it, I put it on.) I had to use soapy water to get it on. My jack handle stows in clips, but not in all cars.
I am thinking the sleeve is to prevent metal-metal contact in certain storage configurations.
Do you have the rubber pad on the lifting cradle?? It usually is missing.
My jack was black, but I heard of grey, also.

The assy manual and body manual gives some detail on what paint to use on various chassis parts, but it is a bit vague. They also gave paint part numbers, so that did not help determine the gloss levels.

I thought the clips are for cars that came with SS1s from the factory, and that the sleave was for holding the jack handle for cars with steelies.

Maybe the '73s are different. (And my memory could be bad) I seem to remember having 2 sleeves on my first '73 and the jack handle slid into them easily.

Morning Rob,

Yes, I have the rubber pad on the cradle.

Next time you're trying to slip rubber onto something try using rubbing alcohol. It works great and evaporates qucikly. [Why do I think Blue Vista is going to chime into this thread?]

Correct, although the clips came on SSI and SSII equipped cars. As noted, others used the sleeve to store the jack handle.

My ears were ringing.

Alcohol loosens me up too, too much sometimes.

Wouldn't that be cold?
It could cause shrinkage if you aren't careful.

I may need some alcohol for medical reasons soon because I'm biting my tongue as hard as I can right now.

I'll talk to my rubber maid Jamesbo, she's an expert at that stuff.
She's being more flexible and decided to take off the rubber gloves and try her hand at cooking in her off-time.
She makes ricochet biscuits.
A ricochet biscuit is the kind of a biscuit that's supposed to bounce back off the wall into your mouth.
If it don't bounce back, hee hee hee,... you go hungry!

What da ya want for nothing? ... a rrrrrrrrubber biscuit?

Reference to the Blues Brothers on this site - excellent Incidently, collecting Blues Brothers memorabilia is a passion of mine.

Back to original topic: Here are a couple items I've saved from various posts on this site. Both offer info on component color.

GM A-body paint info.jpg 1970 Oldsmobile Interior Colors.jpg

In the 2nd pic, note the items listed in the "USED ON" sections for both 'semi-gloss' and 'flat'. The info was acquired from this website - http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/default.aspx

I'm sure the veteran users on this forum have this link, but it may be helpful to all.

You get a deglossing agent and mix to the spec ...

60% gloss 40% degloss ...

It just hit me that a paint store could mix to spec ...hhh

I wonder/forgot if black and gloss black are the same ...
