Worlds smallest V12

Don't know if you've seen this or not - it's the story of the worlds smallest actual working V12. Incredible amount of precision miniature machining. Have a look - you will be absoutely amazed. (takes 9:25 to watch the entire build) over 1220 hours to build.

Can you imagine the time and dedication it took? I would think the first time if fired and ran would be the best day of his life! How many of those do you think you could stuff into a single 350 cylinder??

Wow.

If that guy's got a little more free time, there are a few jobs around my house that need doing as well..

I assume it's "running" on compressed air - what do you guys think?

Well, i didnt see any spark plugs... It sounds a little bit quiet for gas or alcohol ( i built a couple 1-cyl planes in college for the SAE competitions)..

Didnt olds test their engines on compressed air for leaks?

Actually, Eric,

I would think that if it was actually running on a magneto (which would be the most likely approach? unless he went on to machine an ultra-tiny points-set :P) I would that the plexiglass covering the crank would melt right off.. Not sure, i have heard of see through valve covers before, dunno if they're any good.

That big GMC V12 stunned and amazed me. I knew of the 305/351 V6 light truck engines, but I never knew they built those big 12s. Found another vid of one installed in a 1T 62 GMC flatbed, running around a farm. Damn thing will move!

Sounds like they were powerful but thirsty, is why they phased them out of big Jimmy road tractors. Diesels were getting way better fuel mileage.

1 to 1 timing gear ratio, compressed air. Amazing work.

Yeah, I saw that, but it didn't sink in.

Nice catch.

They do make tiny spark plugs, I've seen them on some of the web sites featuring miniature gas engines with spark ignition. A true fuel injected diesel would really be some challenging machining.
