60K cars and about 3 will be Oldsmobile and 0 will get any magazine coverage.
Instead of getting in the middle of that carnage a person would be better off driving their Olds to a United States land mark and taking their own pics over the weekend!

Gotta read better publications for Olds coverage.
Hemmings classic car/ muscle machines are the best I' ve read.
Cant wait for each issue.
The Olds are out there..just need to get them out of the garage.
My gf was just diagnosed with cancer, and just started chemo..cant make the cruise..but wish I could.

My dark maple woody '81 custom cruiser will be gracing the corner of Woodward and Huron in front of the Oakland Press building with the Widetrackers crew and their Pontiacs. Parking pass finally arrived last night.

The Motor City Rockets alone will have at least 32 Oldsmobiles there. Plus there will be some Oldsmobile Street Rockets on the loose, and every year I count many non-affiliated Oldsmobiles already there when I am cruising up Woodward from 9 Mile to Pontiac and then back to our spot south of Long Lake Road.

BTW, you don't go to Woodward for magazine coverage. You go there to have fun.

I agree that it's also fun to take your Oldsmobile to US landmarks and take some pics. If you can, do both.

Professur (and anyone with an Oldsmobile or an interest in Oldsmobiles who is at Woodward),

When you're out cruisin', stop by the Charter One Bank south of Long Lake Road on the east side of Woodward and say howdy to the Motor City Rockets.

Yea I know, just like Hot Rod wrote me back about the "power tour" and said" its the people not the cars that make the event" I wrote back and told them next time me and my buddies would take a taxi and get in free.

Right next to Little Daddy's family Restaurant ... I dunno if that parking lot's gonna be big enough to hold me. I'm staying down in Warren so I'll be running the length up to the loop... hopefully pretty early but we're getting in late so who knows when we'll wake up. You're not so far down that I can't make a hop down to say Hi tho.

Well, they're wrong, it's the people AND the cars. Same at Woodward. I don't understand where magazines enter into the conversation at all. F the magazines.

Well its just kind of dishearting to see Hotrod do a spread of a 4 door buick special without hub caps and an air ride suspension you can't even see.
As far as I know from reading car magazines not 1 Oldsmobile has ever showed up so why would I go there and sit in the corner with the AMC Matadors???

Hey Starfire!

My son and I will be driving down from Lansing in my 65 Olds 442 on Friday afternoon. If we stop by your location, will there be any room to hang around for a little while? I've heard there are no places to park if you're not from the area and you end up just cruising the whole time.

North of birmingham is fine for parking. South of 11 mile was pretty open tonight too.

Yes, we usually save a spot or two for Oldsmobile owners who want to stop by and visit. We only have the bank parking lot on Saturday (the "official" cruise day).

That's the great thing about Woodward. You don't have to sit in the corner with the AMC Matadors. You can get out and cruise and meet all sorts and types of classic car owners, including lots and lots of Oldsmobiles. This is not a static car show, it is miles and miles of some of the finest (and sometimes not so finest) cars ever built. The MCR has a parking lot that we use for home base, but we cruise around in our automobiles too!

I stopped by last year to see Glenn and Brock. Both good friends of mine. They even let my friend in the lot and he has a Buick.

I have a spot with some friends just north of Square Lake Rd. Se we will be up down most of the day. Looking forward to it. Hope everyone is safe and have a great time

The two toughest things about Woodward are trying to find a place to park ... and trying to explain it to people who've never been. The closest I've come to a good description is a 16 mile long, rolling, run what you brung car show. The worst part is .. while you can sit and enjoy the parade going by, you have to go cruise yourself to enjoy the other cars that are parked .. and you're gonna have a hard time appreciating them because there's nowhere to really stop and get out to get a good look. Personally, I think all the parked clubs should make at least one or two 'club runs' ... some already do, but most don't.

Bring it by Jimmy B! We actually have one member from Grand Rapids and two from Grandville! We can let you park for a little while and BS with our group or if there is an open spot you can buy it for the day (half the proceeds go to the bank's charity).

Thanks Starfire, might try to be there Saturday

We went to Woodward this afternoon and cruised for 4 hours. Stopped at the "Little Daddy's" restaurant next to the bank lot that the Motor City Rockets are going to be at. Incredible number of cars cruising and parked along the route. The weather was perfect! I think I will try to get over there again on Saturday and stick around longer. (I had to hurry home to go to work tonight.) At one point we were in traffic between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. Not something I ever see in my home town.

Professur, sorry to hear that your Olds is ailing. Post your cell no. and maybe one of the fellow Olds members could be of assistance.

Sadly my Us cell phone isn't picking up anymore .. thanks for nothing Virgin. Didn't make it to see the Motor City Rockets, although I did drive past and honk. I came up woodward from 12 mile and the family got to see the Dream Cruise in all it's glory ... but just as I was getting out of the thick of it, she started her stumbling act again and I opted for discretion and got myself up to the loop with as little throttle as possible.

problem description: before leaving the house, I did an oil change and air filter ... didn't manage the fuel filter or spark plugs. She was running well. Ran her down to just shy of 1/8th tank and filled with $90 @$1.29/l as a canuck shell. Was about half way through that tank when I had to give some more gas going up an incline on the 401 .. about half way from kingston to TO ... and she stumbled. As I gave more gas, she slowed more ... let off and she'd pick back up. Pulled off into the first service centre and did a walk around .. all fluids fine ... engine running louder and not as smooth. filled the tank and kept going ... she'd make 110kph if you kept a light foot, press a little harder and she'd buck. Finally make it to the hotel .. anything but a light foot and she was unhappy ...in gear. In park or neutral, nothing but a louder than usual roar, and an unstable, and unusually high idle.

my thoughts at first was boiling gas, but at night, and a cool night at that, unlikely. Other thoughts were vacuum lines, plugged fuel filter or plugged Cat. Thoughts?

Wow! What an awesome day out there today. Made it across from Windsor with a couple of good friends. Leo has a white 72' Buick GSX Stage I and Phil has a 71' Chevelle SS with 454. I was there with the green 72' 442. We had a spot reserved just north of Square Lake Rd but stopped in to see the MCR guys. My friend Brock is a member and I got to meet Starfire! All great guys thank you for letting us stop by.

The turnout this year was great! The nice thing about being a bit north is that the traffic is not as congested and some the cars were really movin' when they came by.

I have a few pics I'll get uploaded later.

I had that issue soon after a carb rebuild. Anything more than light throttle would just bog it and it would go BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUH. I took the carb off, the air horn off, then blasted air in all orifices, then reinstalled, and it solved it.

Have to say that this dream cruise may have been the worst Ive been to, and Ive been to all of them. Watching curbside I got to see all sorts of dirty pickups, SUVs, rental cars, and new Camaros/Mustangs/Corvettes. Driving home from 13 to 8 mile I was lucky to see 3 other old cars on the road in my vicinity. The north bound side, gridlocked all the way to I696 was all new cars and trucks. Might be the last time I go on Cruise Saturday.

I sort of agree with this. As things got more crowded more of the older cars parked. I know my car is not too bad in traffic but she was starting to get warm. So we cruised up and down until about 2:00. We parked for a couple hours and headed back to Windsor around 4:00.

I watched the coverage on the local channel from 7-9:00 and it did look like a lot of daily drivers and not many older cars.

Im not pouting, Im too far away anyway Im just saying that the Magazines will do a hell of a write up and how good it is, as long as your driving a Chevy. So if you can only see it thru a magazine you would think there are no Oldsmobiles there.
We have our own "Draggin Main" every year and if we want the "Summerset Cruise" in Kentucky.

I agree, too many daily drivers and I am so sick of seeing modern muscle, everybody that I cruised with said the same thing" I'll puke if I see another modern Mustang, Camaro or Charger!" This has always been a sore spot for me.

But anyway, I and Ryan (hurstlightining84) would like to thank the Motor City Rockets for graciously letting us cool our heels on their rented lot after 6 hrs. of run/cruise time.

I'll add my thanks to the Motor City Rockets for letting this Canuck park for a few hours at their location. Very impressed with the hospitality and help given to the fellow with the overheated Sunbeam Tiger. Kudos!

I was down at 12 and Woodward all day yesterday. The company my wife works for had a private party at Crispelli's pizzeria. Private parking for classics only, free buffet and open bar all day , but I digress....

We got into the area at 11:30, and I only made a pass from 16 mile to the pizzeria. We sat there all day 'till about 7:30-ish, we left there, went down to about 10 mile, and back up to 14 mile. At that point it was already 9:30 and the police were shutting it down. That little 6 mile trip took almost 2 hours to do.
I think that is the main reason none of the classics cruise. You also can't see anything when you're stuffed between SUV's on the road and spectators on the sidewalks.
If you consider how long the route is, say 22 miles round trip, at 2 hours every 6 miles, that takes a big chunk of the day just sitting in traffic. No a lot of fun to me, and I'm guessing to others as well.
Next year, we're going there on Thursday or Friday, I was told those are the days to be there if you want to actually drive your car.

The Friday and Saturday the week before are the days to be there. Thursday and Friday night are just as bad as Cruise day.
