Wolf's Head Oil Cans
Wolf's Head Oil Cans
My dad found me 5 cans of Wolf's Head motor oil for Christmas! Our 62 Jetfire (automatic car) had a Wolf's Head New car guarantee Bond purchased 2 days after the car was bought new. I have the documents where the original owner purchased this bond and I had mentioned to my dad a couple years ago that it would be neat to find a couple vintage Wolf's Head oil cans. Well he never forgot it and stumbled across these at an auction. They are in real good condition. Now I just need to find a sign that is in my budget.
My dad ran Wolf's Head for many years as the garage that serviced our cars used it. Never had any engine problems but the old man was a firm believer in oil and filter changes every 3000 miles, and all our vehicles were driven 40-50 miles a day so the gunk got boiled off.
Didn't know WH was still available but Amalie has always been a respected name in lubricants. Never saw it much around here though, and for that matter never saw Kendall oils anywhere but the Chevy and Olds dealers. Pennzoil and Quaker State were the most common here except for the gas station house brands.
Knock on wood- I've used many different brands of oil and never had an oil-related engine failure. A good friend who retired from Oldsmobile once told me oil was oil, as long as it met the mfg specs and was changed according to how the car was used. He also said that whatever the factory put in was whatever brand gave them the best supply deal, and that Kendall usually got the Olds (and Cadillac) factory oil contracts.
