Winter Projects ??
So after reading some posts about the crummy cold weather, I thought it might be interesting to see what everybody was working on through the winter. Here's what I've got going on per car:
Black 98: New windshield is going in next week, started building the dash and should have it and the rest of the interior (carpets and front seats mostly) in and done in the next month or two. Also finishing up some work under the hood, lots of cleaning and more final assembly. Car should be ready for some serious cruising this spring.
Burgundy 98: Tranny will be rebuilt soon and I'm converting/upgrading to dual exhaust finally. Can't wait to feel the difference both will make!

Continuing the ongoing process of catching up on rest and Z's. Even lazy people get tired, too...
Come spring, Lady will get a front suspension rebuild, tranny seal replacement, axle oil change, and a few other little things...
Pristine may get a radio repair.

- Removed all the emblems on the 66 that needed paint and gave them a new coat.
- Removed the interior to clean the floor and gave it a coat of paint
- Dropped the gas tank and fixed all of the holes in the trunk
- Next is to redo the front suspension and steering, and add a sway bar to the rear

gutted the interior for floor patch and a coat of paint on floor, roof, in doors and inside quarterpanels, removed all windows, removed all chrome, bumpers, rad support to be changed, fix rust around front and rear windows and repaint exterior. thats the plan
Rebuilding my engine, new bearings and syncro's in the M-21, and a new seperate fuel system for the nitrous. Everything done except the engine, still waiting on the machine shop. It seems like forever but they are calling for 20 inches of snow in the next two days so I think I still have time.
Silver Bullet: Fabricated a dual snorkel air cleaner (a new/old one), and cutting the holes in the inner fender wells for the 4" tubing to go to the underbumper air scoops. Oh, I'm also (trying) to fabricate those. Very interesting process. Today went out and put spot light bulbs under the hood(s) on both '68's, then put a blanket over the motor. Both cars inside their garage. Supposed to be down to 8 by Wednesday AM, early!!!! Now that's cold! Tuesday may be one of those "stay at home" days, if the sleet/snow they are predicting actually falls. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Finding a door and fender under $600!!!! Lol!!!!
Front end suspension rebuild, disc brakes, posi rearend, and all cleaned and painted!!!
Wrecking my car really set me back but I'm not gonna let it hold me back!!!!
I already ordered the new quarter panel so once I find the door and fender I'm going in on it!!!!!!! Trying to have it back on the road in primer by Easter Sunday!!!!!!!

I'm into polishing chrome and stainless, looking for a set of wide whites to install before the Nationals. Mostly doing an all over deep detail on everything...God my car needs it bad.Snows is gone no excuses now....Tedd
Tedd: Won't get any of that done until this )&*%&_ snow/sleet/ice melts when the temp FINALLY gets above freezing! Hope to meet you, and many others, at the Nats in Reno! Met so many great folks from CO at Sturbridge, and looks as if will get to do the same thing on the other side of the country!

Hey John, "Atta Boy!" GOOD job on your cars; the rest of you all are making me feel lazy on mine! LOL! Anyway, I noticed you're replacing your windshield in the Black 98...how much did the new one run you? (I've got a quote for my '72 98 for $300 Installed! Higher than what the guy I bought the car from last year supposedly had quotes for; but didn't sound too bad...what do you all think? Just "go for it" and let them buy the Windshield and install it etc??)
THANKS! (That will be my project and I did fix a leaky manifold gasket already; but wondered about converting to dual exhaust....
so GLAD to know you are...the car just sounds SO GOOD with the single exhaust; I really WONDER what duals would be like!!?
Take care and GOOD LUCK Everybody with their projects!

I used Safelite Auto Glass and they charged me about $80 to remove and dispose of the old glass...the balance is about $170 for the new one installed..not much less than your quote. Keep in mind I had removed all the trim, wipers, dash, etc so the labor was a little less than had I not prepared it for them but not much. I have a little work to do with the glass out and then they'll come back to install the new next weekend most likely. Can't wait to get it in and get all the trim back on...then the dash is starting to go in which I am really psyched about!
As for the exhausts, my black one has duals already and it makes a BIG difference. The sound is sweet too....I went with dual mufflers and resonators (no cats obviously) and it has just the right tone...not whisper quiet, but just a little bit of a rumble to let you know there's a 455 purring under the hood!
Winter Project - Wheel/Tire swap
In trying to retain as much originality as possible, decided to switch back to the SSI's that are listed on the build sheet for this car even though the SSIII's were in really nice shape. Also, got away from the short, fat little 235/60/14's and instead went with the 225/70/14's.
The SSI's were purchased on ebay and required quite a bit of paint & rust removal, sanding, prepping, taping and taping and taping, painting, etc, etc. And since I don't have a heated garage where I can paint, had to wait on some decent painting weather
.
Anyway, they're done and mounted. Really like the new look and stance with the taller tires. Only disappointment was the centers I also purchased on ebay. Going to have to find a better set or maybe some NOS's caps.
Enjoy the before/after pics.

'72 Cutlass S 2dr Hardtop Original Matador Red w/ Black vinyl top and interior 64k miles untouched survivor........until this winter: Complete front end rebuild, complete disc brake rebuild, '70 12 bolt "O" rear w/ W27 cover, new brake hard lines and hoses, new Cad plated booster and master cyl., Edelbrock intake, '72 442 4bbl, new HEI and wires, coated headers, factory "OLDSMOBILE" logo valve covers, new dual exhaust, SS1 w/ BFG, W25 Ram-Air OAI hood, new coil springs and shocks all around, and probably something else I've forgotten. This car really needed NOTHING---I might need psychiatric help but all my other cars are finished and I kinda got bored. One of the things I am undecided on is the exterior of the '72---- I'm considering NOT doing the OAI hood and leaving the entire exterior alone and original. If I do the hood then do I do an all-over repaint? I like the idea of the car looking "SURVIVOR-LIKE" but I want something that can be beat on if I want to. Any thoughts from you all??????????
Rebuilding a heater for my Starfire. Have one in reasonable shape but dirty and in pieces and one that is rusted but complete as a template. Previous owner had an aftermarket one installed. Need to get the basement cleaned up a little first. Can't wait to get the vacuum lines run in the spring.
Scott, both set of rims look great on your car, many times I fovor the SSIIs but the SSI look great on your car
I'm not really fixing as much as keeping my eye out for a few more items like the cruise control stalk and engine parts so I can detail the engine in a month or two - like the correct hold down tabs for the OAI springs, and then of course keeping my eyes open for a few of the other parts I need.
