Windshield Wiper Motor noise

Okay, I had my car out in the rain today. I know, this is blasphemy for some but it could not be helped. Of course, I used the wipers which worked as good as can be expected at all speeds.

When I pulled into town and was cruising around 15 mph or so, I really heard the racket the wipers were making. Is this normal based on the design? Or might there be something else the matter?

Trivial I know, but figured I'd ask anyway.

Mine are pretty quiet, so it was not a mal-design.
The little sound mine makes is in the flimsy tin-can wiper blades that are on it. It could be heard when standing still but that was about it.

Could you elaborate on the kind of noise?

It is just a loud mechanical noise of the moving parts. To me it sounds like metal to metal contact of moving parts that is lacking lubrication. I have not tore into it yet as it is not a high priority, but it would be nice to know if this is something I can rectify.
