Randy - Any chance they list a contact telephone number you could find for me and post to the thread. I've tried literally everything. Out millions of websites I view this error is odd. I believe it's hosted on an Apache Server, and I'm guessing for some reason it has me locked out. They only way it could lock me out by not having permission would be (1) If I sent them a username/password (which I have not) I'm only trying to open their cgi web page, or (2) they have for some reason a block on my IP address (but that doesn't make sense since it states "Permission" and permission means it's attempting to validate credentials. Very odd. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback. As a follow-up for future reference, should it assist anyone I have my original receipt from years ago and I noted the following: Automotive History Preservation Society customer service Website: http://www.ahpsoc.org
Email: questions@ahpsoc.org
Phone: 312-925-6028
I included the Email: questions@ahpsoc.org and I already received a bounce-back from the email server which (supposedly hosts that email address) stating: Your message to questions@ahpsoc.org couldn't be delivered. questions wasn't found at ahpsoc.org.
It's not a big issue regarding the email as I'm hoping the other contacts (Kurt, Robert, Jan, Craig) will get my email. There's tons of basic static information on the website and I don't suspect folks are hard at it resolving many issues and making regular updates to the website (although they have over the years).
Issue Resolved: My IP address was blocked as the result of too many failed login attempts when I tried to login to the site several weeks ago. Vice President - Robert Gerometta: bob.gerometta@ahpsoc.org resolved the issue for me this morning via email correspondence.
Are they still charging for access to documents they don't own? (i.e. GM tech docs)
Ownership of the content material has nothing to do with it. They allow you to navigate only so much for FREE. Membership is required for access to the rest of the site.
For $35.00 or whatever the annual membership fee is you can download and print any document or manual that is published. It is RESOURSE LIBRARY. The previous option to purchase a "library card" has been discontinued and if you own one it will not be able to be renewed when it expires. Full membership will now be required for the "total access" privilege.
For $35 you can download every chassis service manual, assembly manual, or schematics that are there. Print just 1 page that you want or the entire manual. Whereelse can you even get just one copy of a service manual for $35 - let alone an entire library full of them!
Also the website is being revamped and updated to make navigation and searching much easier!
The membership fee payback is realized with the download of just one manual!
Guess I'm more old school than you all are. Stuff used to be put on the internet for free for the love of the hobby. Even that site used to be that way.
Some still share for love of the cars. Here's an example.
