Never noticed the wheel well trim on a covert was different fron the hard top.
its like 2 inches shorter because the side mouldings I guess?
I noticed because i was thinking if I paint it and want to leave the side mouldings off.
they would be too short.

Yes, 70-71 Supreme(convert and hard top) wheel well moldings are cut to match the side trim. If you remove the side trim you can use the uncut moldings.
Removing the side trim requires grinding off the mounting nubs that are welded on at the factory. This will make it difficult if you decide to re-install the trim later
If you delete the side trim you will also have replace the side markers. 70-71 Cutlass Supreme cars did not get the side marker bezels chrome plated because the trim covered them.
