What's Mine Worth
What's Mine Worth
I'm having a hard time getting a ball park figure for what my 72 CS with a 350 in it may be worth . I'm not looking for a top dollar figure , just something realistic . I can post pictures but I would probably need to take a bunch more to catch all the good and bad . The underbody of the car is solid all the way back , including trunk ( NO HOLES ) has surface rust . Here's a honest list of what's not seen , that needs to be done if someone was to restore the car .
Rear QTR's need sheet metal work done on both sides behind the wheels at the bottom going up the wheel well lip a bit ( one sides worse then the other )
Driver Side Fender needs a lower patch , and one inner fender brace is pretty shot . I removed both fender braces , cleaned the rust out , and coated it with POR 15
Rear Window needs to be removed , to get at any possible rust damage lurking in the window track . ( I don't think the track is in bad shape but someone made a mess out of sealing a leak on the back window , and there's a section of sheet metal that had holes and pits where the vinyl top laid behind the back window )
Windshield Track / Cowl Area needs the typical rust repair . There's a 1/2" wide rust hole going all the way across the dash right in front of the VIN #
Roof has a couple of small dents and rust bubbles under the vinyl top .
Drivers Door had a hole punched in the door right behind the mirror about a inch wide .
Trunk Lid has a dent in it to the right of the lock , rear bumper also has a dent in it ( pounded most of it out . ) .
Passenger Fender has a small dent by the wheel well lip .
Motor is not numbers matching ( 76 Old's 350 )
Dash has a crack in the pad , seats are toast
I found documents under the rear seat that are pretty much swiss cheese . I never looked on top of the gas tank . To the best of my knowledge the only thing " not original " is the motor , but I never verified it though . I also have a 68 455 from a Toro sitting in my garage for about 6yrs .
I don't want to risk losing everything I just typed , so I'm posting this and adding the pictures after .
I also have all the trim , chrome , badges . some of it needs repair , polishing , or replacement .

How it appears today

sorry for the far away shot on the drivers side . I can't seem to find a close up picture of that side that's not blurry or something ... Will add another one later

Like I said earlier , once the weather gets a bit better I can take more pictures . Please let me know what other information I should post as I go along . Thanks for any input I can gather .

What's the interior and front end like? Does it run and drive ?
It looks like a fairly complete car if the inside is about like the outside eg mostly original 40 year old car, I would guess in the spring you might get as much as ~$3500 for it, I don't think it should go lower than say 2k. These are just ballpark figures but I think it's pretty close to what you might get for it!

The front end is ok . I replaced some of the components and had an alignment done a few years back . It still needs work but it drives pretty straight although the steering is pretty loose / worn . It runs a little rough at idle and has a knock that comes and goes . ( upper end knock ) I never timed it or checked the timing chain , not to mention the carb is out of adjustment and probably would need a rebuild . I did give it a basic tune up a while back . Once I realized it was not the original motor I turned my attention to the 455 I have in the garage and that's where I stopped .
The seat covers are dry rotted and ripped up , no headliner , carpet worn out , crack in dash pad . The door panels and back panels are in pretty decent shape though . I can put some pictures of that on here too .
I only ask because it's in the for sale section. Hope I didn't cause any stress or anything.
My opinion is body work is the most expensive part and your car has a lot of repop body parts witch is a plus with that said, I think fair price is between 1500-3000 depending on buyer and how fast you need to sell
I have time for sure . I wanted to get an idea of what I may get for it if I decide to sell it .
I would also be interested in getting rid of the 455 that I have if this would be the decision I make .

Either way, there's some work to be done, but I'd pay about $2,500 for your car easy.
Well , when the time comes hopefully I can get around the " higher value " that's been mentioned on here so far .... Maybe some kind of package deal with the 455 tossed in . I am being honest about the car which is more then the guy who sold me the car was . I only have myself to blame .
I also wanted to thank you guys for chimming in on this . This gives me an idea what I may get for it . When the time comes I will post it for sale in multiple places , but I will list it here in case someone wants a project car .
I also wanted to thank all that helped me learn so much about my car and Oldsmobiles since I joined this site . It was a bumpy road at times to say the least , but such is life .
Thanks Again

Well , this decision is getting even easier now . The place my wife use to work at decided to take $2000.00 away from my taxes for maternity leave that they said they would pay for 9yrs ago . I'm screwed now , that money was going to go toward debt that I've been trying to pay off and get ahead on . I am once again backed into a corner .
It's hard times for every one . I really hope you are able to hold on to it but done times better ones come along at a later date mine did. I was forced to sell my 72 in a divorce and I was able to find my 65 with my current wife better car by far !!
I feel you on the maternity leave. My wife just had to do 7 weeks and I've had to work extra to cover it.
If this was about 6 months later, I'd be all over this. Unfortunately, I only have about 1/4 of what you need.

Wow , what a lucky guy I am . I have to drive my Olds in the salt and snow because my wife's car has a bad front end , and she is driving my Buick . I would of had her car fixed already but the subframe is shot . I can't even get an estimate from a garage . I was going to fix it myself , but I'm not having an easy time finding one . My other two cars are also going to break soon . I am so close to not having a car , place to live , and my heart issue keeps getting worse . OMFG , I'm going to leave my family with this mess after I finally take a puke ! I bust my **** in life and keep getting kicked in the sack !
ok , I'm a bit better today lol ...... still screwed , but different outlook . I'm going to try my best to hang on to this car , and work on small stuff from time to time . I would like to light sand the areas on the car I did repairs and get this can of epoxy sprayed on those areas to protect them , and then some underbody work perhaps ? This car ran / drove great yesterday , and aside from the sticking carb linkage , knocking motor , everything actually worked also . The "hot" dummy light stopped flashing on & off , and even the windshield wipers worked ( This is something that just started happening , and must be a connection or ground issue . I moved wiper motor wire connector under the hood , and then they worked then ) . I really don't like that moving wires to make things work crap , but I'm pretty sure the connection just needs cleaning .
